On CNN, Democratic strategist, Hilary Rosen said of Mitt, "He seems so old-fashioned when it comes to women, and I think that comes across, and I think that that's going to hurt him over the long term. He just doesn't really see us as equal."

Gee, do ya think his priesthood indoctrination could have anything to do with that? Duh.

They don't necessarily know where it comes from, but they see it.

They just don't 'get' it. Mitt is a product of Patriarchal Mormonism. He's been a leader in that Patriarchal mormonism for his adult life.

He thinks he's rich and successful because he's righteous and God loves him the most. Poor people are poor because they are stupid and lazy.

He gets annoyed, defensive, and snarky when anyone questions him...because as a Mormon Patriarchal leader, he's not used to being questioned.

And the women thing...((sigh)). Mitt will never 'get' it. He sat through many temple sessions and watched and listened as Anne vowed to 'obey' him. He believes that he gets to decide if Anne is righteous enough to get to heaven when/if he calls her new name. He believes he presides over his wife. He believes women should NOT 'preside' over men in the home or even the workplace. Women are a step above children, but definitely not equal to men. I've seen Mitt be especially condescending to female reporters. It's like he's thinking, "Why don't you just shut up and go home and take care of your kids. That is what you should be doing, not asking me these rude question, you uppity woman".

I wish the press would dig a little deeper when they are trying to figure Romney out.

Great insight. A man knows his wife's new name, but she can't know his. Men can get sealed to multiple wives, but not the other way around. Just because the church says the men are called by god, doesn't make it so.

As soon as they heard about this the Obama folks started criticizing Rosen's statement. From the Washington Examiner:

"The story really took off when Obama campaign officials scrambled to distance themselves from Rosen. Obama campaign manager Jim Messina tweeted: "I could not disagree with Hilary Rosen any more strongly. Her comments were wrong and family should be off limits. She should apologize." Top Obama aide David Axelrod added, "Also disappointed in Hilary Rosen's comments about Ann Romney. They were inappropriate and offensive.""

You don't want to completely lose the stay-at-home mom vote.

He told a mormon feminnist that he didn't want to give her a temple recommend because she wasn't the right type of mormon. He even questioned why someone like her stays in the church. Yep, he is definitely old fashined when it comes to women, but inside the mormon church he is normal, maybe even a little progressive.

Here's a link to the mormon feminist article

http://www.salon.com/2012/01/06/romney_tangled_with_mormon_feminist/

Here is the relevant part of the article:

One woman who had been active in the [feminist] Exponent II organization was Judy Dushku, a longtime scholar of global politics at Suffolk University in Boston. At one point while Romney was stake president, Dushku wanted to visit the temple outside Washington to take out endowments, a sacred rite that commits Mormons to a lifetime of faithfulness to the church. …

After what she described as a “lovely interview” with her bishop and after speaking with one of Romney’s counselors, she went to see Romney. She wasn’t sure what to expect. Despite Romney’s willingness to allow some changes in 1993, he and Dushku had clashed over the church’s treatment of women. “He says something like ‘I suspect, if you’ve gotten through both of the interviews, there’s nothing I can do to keep you from going to the temple,’ ” Dushku recalled. “I said, ‘Well, why would you want to keep me from going to the temple?’ ” Romney’s answer, Dushku said, was biting. “He said, ‘Well, Judy, I just don’t understand why you stay in the church.’ ” She asked him whether he wanted her to really answer that question. “And he said, ‘No, actually. I don’t understand it, but I also don’t care. I don’t care why you do. But I can tell you one thing: you’re not my kind of Mormon.’ ”

That reminds me of the year I lived in Utah and took a few classes at UVSC (now UVU).
I was waiting at the bus stop out front, and two guys were discussing how to handle women, as if women were foreign objects. Being from the Northeast, I thought it had to be a joke. I started looking for the candid camera.

This makes me want to strangle the man. I have way too much pride to sit on my A$$ and wait for a man to tell me what to do. "I am woman! hear me roar!" lol.

Seriously... the guy has been married to the same woman for 43 years. With a current 50% divorce rate, he needs to get with the times!
