When I read this thread, I really had to scratch my head and say to myself, "what the heck". Not leaving because of family, friends, identity, alienation, disappointing parents, ...blah, blah, blah inluding there isn't a better option out there. What the heck about being honest with yourself? What about integrity? What about having to lie all the time to keep an active membership? What about having some balls and say what you really believe?
I say, stand up for what you really think and believe and be not afraid of all the consequences. What? You think that you might not make it to the celestial kingdom and live happily with all your family forever? You have already admitted that you know that is all a farce and a fairytale.
Yes it may cause you some great changes in your life and others you care for may not feel the same for you anymore as they are still living in a deluded sense of belief but don't you think that you might just find something else that now brings you more happiness and better and more reasonable understanding of just what this existance really is and what are the real important thing that we ought to do with the rest of our time in this life.........because, in reality, it might just be all the time that we really have left as the person we know as "ourself".
So, I feel very strongly that if we really come to the conclusion that the Mormon church has a totally fraudulent origin then what the heck good does it do to stay in and continue to have others believe that you are a true believing Mormon when that is so wrong from what you really believe.
Be HONEST with yourself and HONEST with those around you and find what really helps you to undertand our existence, if it is possible to do that, or at least try.
My 2 cents worth
