Did he do that only in his religious paintings or all of them. And what must he have been thinking?

it is definitive proof of authenticity. I remember seeing a clip of the Barbera guy from Hanna/Barbera cartoon fame. He had a pen that contained ink with his DNA in it to discourage counterfeits.

Look on the bright side, at least he wasn't a chef. ;-)

That's so wrong, but I laughed.

He had a history of really bizarre behavior.

Ew, ew, ew!! Do you think it was an ego thing? People said he liked to "mark his territory."

But he also had a very anti-social side to him, and seemed to revel in that kind of behavior.

I had no idea Thomas Kincade was like that.

maybe it made the paint better? I seem to remember that some paint or varnish finishes during the renaissance had blood in them - I think it was a finish for violins? Scraping the barrel of my memory bank here...

The article said he wanted his DNA on the painting so I don't think it was to change the quality of the paint.

I had a friend who knew Kinkade well. The man was both a gifted artist and quite eccentric in his personal life. Funny how those two things tend to go together.

How about we just call him eccentric. Gifted is pushing it.
Personally, i find his work to be schlocky kitsch. Nothing against you or your friend.

Sounds gross, but also brilliant. Hey at least he didn't take pictures of his little factory eruptions and call it art:
