Wow. I was thinking a while back while reading on the historical Jesus, the story of his ministry follows the theme he continually preached that "the first shall be last, and the last shall be first." He was a nobody who became the Messiah in the eyes of his follows who was then crucified as a criminal who was then resurrected as Lord. His story follows that pattern of reversals he preached would happen to others. I see why he gave hope and so many people believed.

Talking about a story, Dave, and how some people have responded. Obviously, it's not your cup of Postum.

Cellebrate the tourture and murder of a inocent man for crimes he did not commit!

Yeah, and be so grateful that his death lets you off ther hook for YOUR sins.

Immoral from start to finnish.

I wounder, if someone decided to die for Wayne Laws so that Laws could go free, would you worship or even repsect that person? Would you agree that the death of someone other than laws should allow laws to go free?

http://www.cncpunishment.com/forums/showthread.php?3170-Wayne-Alen-Laws-North-Carolina-Death-Row

Or any criminal for that matter? Should they be allowed to escape the conciquences of their actions if they can get someone else to accept punishment?

The last few posts prepare me for the shock of going from a joyous Easter celebration at church to a full-frontal assault of my beliefs at my in-laws. Happy Easter!

What do your in-laws say?

My father in law used to ask me questions about the Catholic church, what do Latin phrases mean, etc. He couldn't grasp the whole denominations thing. He thought church meant Catholic. I finally got him a book about the history of Christianity that explained how the denominations came to be. He also told insulting jokes.

Here's my best mother in law story. When my kids were little we were trying to plan Easter. I said we could come at 11:00 or something after church. That wouldn't work because she had to have the Easter egg hunt earlier than that. She said, "Do you really have to go to church every Sunday?"

Ouch. My family wasn't religious. I went to the Lutheran Church as a kid and it was a good experience. But after about age 12 I quit going to church at all until I converted to Mormonism at age 19. I think that was pretty incomprehensible to my family and it created some tension. Religion isn't a part of many people's lives and they don't understand why it appeals.

Yes, do enjoy a joyous celebration that an inocent person was tourtured and murdered in order to get you off the hook for YOUR actions.

Oh, wait, it isn't just your actions, it is even the sins of Adam and Eve that you are being held accountable, yes do celelebrate that an inocent man was tourtured and murdered to free you of the sins of someone else!

Happy Easter.

And enjoy celelbrating DEATH. I for on might celebrate the death of a leader that commited cenocide, but to celebrate the death of a loving saviour? Wow. Oh, I keep forgetting, that is what lets YOU off the hook, celebrating that someone else dies so you can exscape punishment for YOUR sins is a good reason for you to celebrate.

No, I am not assaulting your beliefs, I an writing in the way I see those beliefs.

At Easter time my thoughts turn to Jesus on the Cross. And then I think to myself, Man, what way to spend Easter vacation.

I saw that before and it is SO amazing. What talent. I agree with angelina5. It is a special day for Christians and I don't think this post was put there to put down the beliefs of anyone. So those who are putting one's beliefs down, why don't you just let this post pass you by - unless you insist on being disrespectful. Like Jews who say Merry Christmas to Christians.....couldn't you do the same?

Because it is just stupid. Why should religion and Christians get a pass on this nonsense? Why don't you just quit being disrespectful of my beliefs by not starting with this nonsense that some fictional person in the past that is responsible for so much pain, suffering, oppression and theocratic bullying? I hate your Jesus. I hate what religion has done to me and my family. Keep your religion and your nonsense to yourself. Merry Christmas and happy Chanukah.

I am sure that there are more than enough Xian boards that you can share all of this nonsense with. Go for it. Show some fictional character being tortured. Rejoice in it! It is sick. Enjoy it if you wish, but it is sick. Keep it away from me.

Agreed. I'm not religious but I had no problem with it. Besides, I thought this was the Recovery from Mormonism board? Perhaps the name should be changed to RfR? (Recovery from Religion).

"Mormonism is a form of Christianity and religion so, for some people, recovery from mormonism will also include leaving Christianity or religion altogether. This does not mean that Christians or the discussion of Christianity are discouraged here. Far from it! This site is Christian-friendly. It is not, however, Christian-safe. Do not assume that everyone here will share your beliefs; other posters can and will disagree with and challenge what you say. If you decide that you need a site that is Christian-safe as well, we can recommend some places"

So, if you want a safe place to discuss your joy over the suffering and murder of someone that gets you off the hook for your actions, there are other places for you. I think the celebration of such suffering is disgusting.

I find it funny how so many will claim it bashing but can not really say how depicting the crucificion story as I have is factually wrong.

RfM will let agnostics, atheists, Buddhists, or any belief system post here. As a Christian, I promise not to intrude on your belief post. Just remember to include it in the subject line. ;-D

I will stop commenting on those that pimp Christianity here.

Till then I will continue to state my disgust at the celebration of tourture and murder every time somone indicates that such barbarity is something to be celebrated.

It's the time of year when flowers bloom, chicks hatch from eggs and rabbits reproduce. All our Easter traditions are about the renewal of life in spring, which really is worth celebrating. (If only it wasn't allergy season too...)

The kids and I went to a different church to see a service that concentrated solely on the resurrection. What a refreshing way to spend the holiday. TBM DH did the same where he was stationed at. Awesome.

Just a thought...

Easter is not a time for groping through dusty, musty tomes or tombs to disprove spontaneous generation or even to prove life eternal. It is a day to fan the ashes of dead hope, a day to banish doubts and seek the slopes where the sun is rising, to revel in the faith which transports us out of ourselves and the dead past into the vast and inviting unknown.

What sacrifice?, he was dead for two nights then came back to life, good as new- nothing was sacrificed, or if you insist, then a mother sacrifices to birth a baby because she had to endure the pain. True sacrifice means that you lose something permanently.
