The article stated the church disavows involvement. It is an effort of an individual member.
But it also states -- "An informed source said the email was sent to the entire congregation in D.C. and Southern Maryland, which consists of between 500 and 1,500 church members and former members. "
How do you get the emails of church members? Are they posted on the web for everyone to use? Probably not. So, if I'm a church member, I can get emails of all the church members in my area and use them for my own personal use? Really?
Sounds like the church trying to cover their butts. Sorry, doesn't pass the smell test! And we know the lds church thinks their excrement doesn't stink.
I frequently get emails dispersed through what I call the local mormon email tree.
These emails arrive after having been forwarded four or five times, with approximately 75 recipients in each "To" field. (Mormons apparently can't be bothered to remove the evidence of multiple forwarding.)
Mormons are expert at organizing non-official, but church-related campaigns.
Most of the emails fit into the following categories: 1. anti-Obama 2. anti-gay 3. support the missionaries 4. encourage women to restrict themselves to traditional roles (these usually arrive decorated with flowers -- I hate that) 5. effing crazy-town conspiracy theories 6. anti-abortion 7. anti-Darwin and anti-science
Here's an excerpt from the most recent mormon email:
Obama: Gone!
Borders: Closed!
Language: English only
Culture: Constitution, and the Bill of Rights!
Drug Free: Mandatory Drug Screening before Welfare!
I know many Americans are all for drug testing for any kind of government assistance. However, you can sign up for many of the programs online or over the phone. So what is the applicant suppose to do -- pee in the computer or on the phone? And what about the extra cost? How is this smaller government?
In my post above, I asked why are church emailing lists being used for personal use? Mormons are no boundaries. How about forwarding those email lists to groups that oppose the lds causes?
As far as I can see, mormons are using their Ward mailing lists for other purposes.
And far as I can see, Church leaders turn a blind eye to this practice. Some of them may even tacitly endorse it by making the mailing lists available without asking questions.
"An informed source said the email was sent to the entire congregation in D.C. and Southern Maryland, which consists of between 500 and 1,500 church members and former members. According to the source, the author is Wallace, one of the named organizers in the email and wife of one of the junior pastors of the congregation."
Someone please tell me; What is a junior pastor of a Mormon congregation?
The Mormon church seems to be getting more political. Probably has a lot to do with them being close to the White House. I'm not a member of either party, but I think a Republican mormon is much better for the church than Democrat Mormon like Harry Reid. This is the Mormon's chance at getting what Joseph Smith wanted in 1844.
But isn't there someone better than flip-flop, etch-a-sketch Romney? Does he have a face on the back of his head too? Will he be debating Obama or a previous Mitt?
Most LDS Church members have "volunteered" to be ignorant when it comes to gays, and to wield that ignorance to cause blunt-force trauma in the political arena.
The LDS Church has not officially required them to be ignorant and to break IRS tax law.
An unspoken and unwritten contract exists between the LDS Church and the sheeple. This contract has dire effects on culture and on politics, but since the mechanism is osmosis via pickling in doctrinal brine, we can't revoke TSCC's tax-free status.
We should follow the UK's lead and at least revoke tax-free status for the temples.
Most people expect that it will go to referendum in the fall election. The Mormons are correct that they will need far more than the required number of signatures because historically, many signatures are thrown out for incorrect or incomplete information. Successful referendums in Maryland are rare because the effort to put one on the ballot requires a high degree of organization and commitment. What does that tell you about expected Mormon church involvement? If not overt, I'm sure that there will be plenty of behind-the-scenes influence.
I don't know how the referendum will go. I hope that the new law will be sustained. If I were forced to place a bet, I think that it will be.
It's so stupid. Why, of all the things in the world, of all the problems such as poverty, domestic violence, child abuse and the continued existence of racism, why would you FOCUS ON GAY MARRIAGE? It's so silly! Wasting time, resources and money to make life more difficult for a group of people who is not trying to force you to marry someone of the same sex!
More and more people are caring less and less about gay marriage. They might win the battle but will lose the war in the end. If they really wanted to change their image to get Romney elected they would start spending those millions on famine relief in Africa or sending missionaries to Haiti or Japan to do service work instead of trying to convert the gullible. But then I suppose if they did that the whole pyramid scheme would collapse.
Well the Morgbots can spend all the $ that hasn't been sucked into City Creek Center that they want. Me and my friends, who live and vote here will give them a fight!
