It amazes me how much time and energy these women put into not only indoctrinating their kids, but announcing it to the world. Are they hoping to encourage other mothers to do this? Or are they trying to be perfect, and one up them? I really wonder. I don't get this.

I would imagine it's a perfection thing and yes, trying to one up each other with the most "holiest" crafts they can come up with. Sick. sad. wrong. That's all I have to say and I did see the original link/post (unfortunately) lol

Culturally, I'm still very involved with these types of Mormon women. All of my local friends are active, young, LDS moms.

I do think there's an element of "who can be holier," but I think it has more to do with the pressure to be like the mothers of the stripling warriors or whatever from the BoM. As a woman in the Church, your righteousness is predicated on how well you indoctrinate your kids.

So combine that with the brethren's admonition to use the internet for spreading the Gospel, add in a little bit of "I'm a stay-at-home mom. What now?" and what do you get? Crafty Mormon housewife blogs. They're freaking everywhere. Hell, mine is even pretty damn close to that crap (minus anything Mormon-themed or related in any way).

(As a stay-at-home mom who's familiar with the ups and downs of it, I own what I just said about it sucking sometimes.)

no worries, if I were still active I'd probably be doing the same thing. I'm a work at home mom and I'm crafty too but ya, the church-y motivation just isn't there for me lol

I think the blogs and craftiness are a-ok, it's the indoctrination part I don't like :)

I'm not active. Not at all. Just still love my friends and didn't want to lose those relationships.

What do you do from home?

When I was a SHM The internet was just coming into being. I didn't have the pressure to put anything on the internet. I can see where that could get to be an expectation that could get a bit overwhelming.

Are you considered anti social it you don't put at least part of your life online? I can't imagine. I'm a bit reclusive, and a bit social. I like to be able to pick and choose.

I've always been art oriented. Maybe if I'd been born 20, 30 years later I would have been an internet craft queen. As it is, I can't stand scrap booking and making "stuff". I used to be more that way when my kids were small. I made a lot things for them, and my home. Now I just paint crazy paintings, and I sometimes paint on my walls. So, maybe it's just generational. If I would have had the computer to create with, I might have went down a whole different road.
