and in his talk he infers that masturbation is a *major* moral problem, yet those who don't do it are "rare".

"
I am sorry to tell you that there are men in high places who have some fairly major moral problems, even as youth have the same problems. We shouldn't have a problem with masturbation. I know one fine father who interviewed his 11-year-old son and he said, " Son, if you never masturbate, the time will come in your life when you will be able to sit in front of your bishop at age 19, and say to him, I have never done that in my life,' and then you can go to the stake president when you are interviewed for your mission and tell him, I have never done that in my life.' And you would be quite a rare young man. "

today, puberty is common for boys around age 13 and 12 for girls:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puberty

i think if mormon adults are going to interview pre-pubescent kids about masturbation (which is not even relevant for them at that age), they should go all the way and tell them that the church also says oral sex is unlawful, impure and unholy (scanned image of message from first presidency):

NOTE: if you haven't heard, BYU has a tool called "Corpus" that let's you search conference talks from 1851+:
http://corpus.byu.edu/gc/

i found this talk by searching for:
masturbat*

featherstone and spencer kimball are the only two who have addressed masturbation in conference.

Spencer W. Kimball, Conference Report, April 1967, pp. 64-67
http://scriptures.byu.edu/gettalk.php?ID=1543

"
How like the mistletoe is immorality. The killer plant starts with a sticky sweet berry. Once rooted, it sticks and grows—a leaf, a branch, a plant. It never starts mature and full grown. It is always transplanted an infant.

Nor does immorality begin in adultery or perversion. Those are full-grown adults. Little indiscretions are the berries—indiscretions like sex thoughts, sex discussions, passionate kissing, pornography. The leaves and little twigs are masturbation and necking and such, growing with every exercise.

A Self-Inflicted Purging, BISHOP VAUGHN J. FEATHERSTONE, Second Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric, May 1975
http://www.lds.org/ensign/1975/05/a-self-inflicted-purging?lang=eng

"
Now, my young friends, and I am sorry to say, many adults, how about all those of you who have a masturbation problem? If the names of those who had the problem were projected across this big, huge scroll, would your name be there, or would you be able to sit back confident and pure in heart?
...
We shouldn’t have a problem with masturbation. I know one fine father who interviewed his 11-year-old son and he said, “Son, if you never masturbate, the time will come in your life when you will be able to sit in front of your bishop at age 19, and say to him, ‘I have never done that in my life,’ and then you can go to the stake president when you are interviewed for your mission and tell him, ‘I have never done that in my life.’ And you would be quite a rare young man.”

The father again interviewed the young man, who is now 18 years old, and he asked the son about masturbation. The son said, “I have never done that in my life. You told me, Dad, that if I didn’t do that, I would be able to sit in front of the bishop and stake president and tell them I had never done it, and I would be a rare young man, and I am going to be able to do it.”

I believe, brethren, we have the willpower. We don’t have to buckle under Satan’s temptations. That urge does not have to be satisfied. It has to be transmuted to other things.

President Kimball Speaks Out on Morality, PRESIDENT SPENCER W. KIMBALL, November 1980
http://www.lds.org/ensign/1980/11/president-kimball-speaks-out-on-morality?lang=eng

"
The early apostles and prophets mention numerous sins that were reprehensible to them. Many of them were sexual sins—adultery, being without natural affection, lustfulness, infidelity, incontinence, filthy communications, impurity, inordinate affection, fornication. They included all sexual relations outside marriage—petting, sex perversion, masturbation, and preoccupation with sex in one’s thoughts and talking.
...
Masturbation, a rather common indiscretion, is not approved of the Lord nor of his church, regardless of what may have been said by others whose “norms” are lower. Latter-day Saints are urged to avoid this practice. Anyone fettered by this weakness should abandon the habit before he goes on a mission or receives the holy priesthood or goes in the temple for his blessings.

Sometimes masturbation is the introduction to the more serious sins of exhibitionism and the gross sin of homosexuality. We would avoid mentioning these unholy terms and these reprehensible practices were it not for the fact that we have a responsibility to the youth of Zion that they be not deceived by those who would call bad good, and black white.

so give corpus another spin and see if it will pull up the talks by MORmON ASSpostHOLE John Henry Smith that told MORmON couples in the name of Christ that they had virtually committed adultery if they had indulged in sex with out the specific intent of creating a pregnancy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYsi-r1amY0

Featherstone struck me as a self infatuated MORmON PHONY.
I heard he admitted that he wanted to climb the MORmON executive ladder, so he modeled his life after MORmON leader SHI t and made the climb. With friends like MORmON leader SHI T who needs enemies!

8 Sep, 1890 - Apostle John Henry Smith preaches from the pulput that "married people who indulge their passions for any other purpose than to beget children, really comitted adultery."

So this old buzzard stopped having sex with his wife when she hit menopause?

I have noticed in life that men who are sexual purity freaks have a closet full of skeletons.

As for old Vaughn, he made the following prediction:

"I have a vision that the South will one day baptize more people into the Church than the rest of the English speaking world together.

I believe the Lord is preparing a mighty host of devoutly religious people who will, when they see their pastors and ministers veering away from the gospel, come into the Church in great numbers."

I have lived in the South all my life. Monson and Packer will fall in love and get married in the Salt Lake Temple before Vaughn's prediction comes true.

I met him at a scout camp when I was 16. It was an all Mormon encampment with about 2000 boys near Kirtland, Ohio. The first night I was there, a group of boys bullied and terrorized our camp and were sent home, thankfully. Featherstone lined the rest of us up the next day like we were in the military -- the ones who were bullied and terrorized and not sent home -- and yelled at us for about half an hour. I could hardly believe it, and I was so mad. The guy was completely clueless and probably just wanted kids to yell at and missed his chance when the bullies were sent home. It doesn't surprise me that he would say such an unrealistic thing to guilt teens.

Such statements by these perverted priests are a tacit admission of guilt, having done it themselves, and being humiliated, shamed, and intimidated by adults when in their youth, seek to impose the same even more strenuously as was done to them. There is always that element among men who seek after greater conservatism than their predecessors in order to bury their own incapacity. The only "prophetic" statement made by JS is found in the Mllenial Star:

"We have heard men who hold the priesthood remark that they would do anything they were told to do by those who preside over them -- even if they knew it was wrong. But such obedience as this is worse than folly to us. It is slavery in the extreme. The man who would thus willingly degrade himself should not claim a rank among intelligent beings until he turns from his folly.
"A man of God would despise this idea. Others, in the extreme exercise of their almighty authority have taught that such obedience was necessary, and that no matter what the Saints were told to do by their presidents, they should do it without any questions.
"When Elders [leaders] of Israel will so far indulge in these extreme notions of obedience as to teach them to the people, it is generally because they [the leaders] have it in their hearts to do wrong themselves."

Just read the majority of featherstone's talk. What a douchebag!

"I know of a great man who held his dead son in his arms, and said, “In the name of Jesus Christ and by the power and authority of the Holy Melchizedek Priesthood, I command you to live.” And the dead boy opened up his eyes.

This great brother could not have possibly done that had he been looking at a pornographic piece of material a few nights before or if he had been involved in any other transgression of that kind. The priesthood has to have a pure conduit to operate"

A$$HAT!

Why do you think LDS parents let their children in to speak with these sick freaks? If something like that happened at a school you can bet someone would be getting arrested. Can you imagine if the principle had your kid into his office and started asking him those types of questions? What's the difference?

I can not wrap my mind around how someones sex life is anyone else's business. What gives these men the balls to think they have the right to be asking questions like this of anyone?

I remember my first time in the bishops office. I had just turned 12 and was having the interview to become a deacon. When the bishop came to the question about masturbating, I felt weird and a bit confused since the week before we had learned that the bishop's interview was just like talking with Christ. He was His appointed one, so it would be as though I were being intervied by Christ. AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Really??? Why does Christ want to know if I touch myself?? Shouldnt he already know???
I dreaded every one of those damn interviews thereafter.

So, do the Bishops interview the girls and ask them about masterbating?

Yes. My SIL was asked about it in a youth interview and didn't
know what it was. So the Bishop had to explain it to her.

I am disgusted by this. I was asked if I "touched myself" when I was 8 years old for my baptismal interview. Yes, this is true.

Did you know that were going to be 13 disciples until Jesus found out that Larry, Brother of Howard, liked to wank on occasion.

And in a wonderful coincidence for this thread re: the LDS church and its hang-up's about sex, part of the spam prevention code is "VJJ"; the other letters are "MF"...

hee hee

Not verbally anyway. However, until a non-white apostle is called who is young enough to outlive the others and become prophet, racism is alive and well.

I want to emphasize as a nevermo that these interviews about masturbation, or other sexual practices, are CREEPY AS #^&@. And if I had a kid asked ANYTHING about it by ANYBODY, let alone the rector of my church, my next stop would be the police station!

THIS IS NOT NORMAL! THIS IS ABUSIVE!
