Does anyone know where I can download a 1830s facimile BOM pdf? I'm looking for the original text with all the grammer problems etc.

I've done google searches but can't find what I'm looking for.

Any help appreciated.

This isn't an on-line pdf version, but Utah Lighthouse Ministries has a publication called "3913 Changes In the Book of Mormon"

http://www.utlm.org/booklist/titles/3913changesinthebookofmormon_ub003.htm

The description sounds interesting:

"A photo reprint of the original 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon with all the changes marked (compared to a 1964 edition). Contains a 16-page introduction by Jerald and Sandra Tanner which shows that the changes are not in harmony with the original text."

Thank you.

I was hoping for a pdf version, but perhaps this does not exist.

I don't think there is a PDF version on the internet. I purchased my physical copy years ago from the Community of Christ (RLDS) publisher Herald House. Here is a link to their website:

Thanks - I may indeed have to go the hard-copy route.

This is the original text, although it isn't a facsimile. It also isn't a pdf version, but if you want a hard copy you can easily copy and paste the text into Word:

Try this one -- it may be slow to load into a browser:

Hi,

I happen to know where there is a pdf scanned from an original 1830 printed BoM, but I don't think the text is searchable. I also don't know where you might find it on the Internet. I think the person who has it is worried about becoming a target if he uploads it somewhere. Does anyone know a safe way for him to get it out to others? I'll be glad to pass along any suggestions.

I thought all PDFs were searchable...

Snail Mail?

Seriously, encrypt it. I use AES, triple DES or PGP (sold by Symantec). AES is the most secure; PGP is almost as secure; triple DES can be broken relatively easy if you do the triple encryption with he same key; if you use a K1K2K3 encryption scheme it is pretty much invulnerable to hacking with anything, but a supercomputer...

What the people in transit see and what you see would you it, aren't anywhere near the same.

Apple Mail in MacOS X sends data AES encrypted...

If you want more info on encryption, leave a message and we can make arrangements to get together...

A PDF that is a scan of an image would not be searchable, which is what this would be.

If a PDF is a representation of words typed into a computer it is searchable - if it is a scan the PDF doesn't know what those words mean.

In other words a PDF would not more be able to search a scanned image than I would be able to read Chinese.

If you *really* want to search the PDF, you can get an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program.

It won't be 100% accurate, but if it is scanning printed material it is about 99% accurate (can be 100% accurate if the image is really clear and the printed lines are truly parallel). If it is hand-written manuscript, even the best programs are really only competing for 60% accuracy or so.

But, you COULD make it searchable if you are willing to go through that effort.

Just have your friend create an anonymous http://ge.tt/ account and upload the text. It cannot be traced. Further, I'd be happy to make the PDF searchable and send it back.
