Did anyone else have a letter read to them in sacrament meeting yesterday frome the First Presidency requiring wards to celebrate Easter on Easter Sunday with appropriate talks on the atonement and the resurrection?

While I do not go to church anymore, I hope that letter was read in every ward. What always bothered me was having lessons on other things during Priesthood/RS, SS, and even Sacrament Meeting sometimes on Easter, instead of the total focus on JC.

With all the media attention from Bottgate, Mitt, etc. they probably want to seem mainstream to the media.

Kind of ironic that a CHRISTIAN church as they claim to be has to put out a memo about what to talk about at Easter. I doubt any other Christian church has to do that.

So I'm assuming the letter is telling the wards to forget testimony meetings on Fast Sunday on Easter. It didn't even mention that Fast Sunday should be held.

So mormons have to be told by Big Brother to celebrate Easter on Easter. 'Nuff Said. Good thing their "Christianity" is in the spotlight this year so people will take it seriously.

I have realized since being in the Southeast that I really never even had any idea what Easter (and Holy Week) was about. I had no clue what Ash Wednesday was, let alone Passion Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday. Easter was just a day we sang those few songs in the hymnal, got new dresses and white shoes and had ham for dinner. And sometimes we didn't even go to church because it was con-fernce and sometimes it was just F&T day. But we just couldn't understand why people think Mormons aren't Christians.

Exactly. Maybe when they start with Ash Wednesday, and also celebrate Palm Sunday and all of Holy Week, people will start believing them when they say they are Christian.

I won't go back to church until they start celebrating Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras in SLC -- that's the ticket!

If this is true, someone needs to start a new thread with the subject line reading:
Mormon First Presidency to LDS congregations--How to observe Easter like Christians.
It would look really good on google.

It is funny that Christ's one true church needs a memo to remind them about Easter. LOL

but its also pretty pathetic that a letter has to be sent from the First Presidency.

Still, i'm sure the wards and branches will still somehow find a way to make it about Joseph Smith.

It certainly is about time. After all, the resurrection is kind of the point of Christianity and Easter is the holiest day on the Christian calendar. It is amazing that this is even an issue.

Don't forget - The Mormons also believe that Lent is something that you clean out of your clothes dryer.

This letter was sent to every member of my ward 3 years ago

Dear Friends,

This time of year is full of change and symbolism. {rest of paragraph deleted as it doesn't really say anything}.

Two unique opportunities are ours in the weeks ahead.

First, on April 4th & 5th the Church's General Conference is being held. Two hour sessions begin at 9am and 1pm each day. God's apostles and prophets will teach and testify and give inspired counsel for those willing to listen. The proceedings will be broadcast on www.lds.org, BYU TV and other local cable channels. we invite you to schedule your activities around these broadcasts. Please prayerfully consider who you may invite to hear the good news and comforting counsel offered.

Secondly, Easter Sunday is April 12th. Wd will celebrate and focus on our Savior's resurrection and atonement. We are joining with other wards and stakes in our region by extending an invitation to our friends and neighbors to "Come and see". Our Easter service will be conducted in a manner that is comfortableand familiar to all. Care will be made to use language and terminology that will be familiar to visitors and is not singular or unique to Latter-day Saints. The reality of Christ's atonement and His triumphant resurrection will be taught with simple clarity and conviction.

{closes by quoting 2Ne 2:8}
signed by bishopric.

"Our Easter service will be conducted in a manner that is comfortableand familiar to all. Care will be made to use language and terminology that will be familiar to visitors and is not singular or unique to Latter-day Saints."

In other words, the usual Mo Easter Sunday Sac. mtg. would totally freak out any nonmembers who happened to attend.

Now I wonder if this wasn't some sort of a pilot program.

that must mean that they'll be serving wine instead of water on Easter Sunday... so they can be more like the real Jesus, rather than these temperance dingbats.

Now I am certain that this is all because of Romney. Mormons celebrating Easter. WOW! Get out the palm braches and begin waving them to and fro.
