John Dehlin does not need any seeds planted. He is striking to me because he continues to expose the underbelly of the Church while somehow seeming to stay in it.
Anyway, the irony is, that he has "helped" many people OUT while appearing to give them reasons to stay.
You would understand if you know my brother. He is as TBM as they come, and until now I didn't even think he knew what he didn't know about the realities of Mormonism. Now, I know he is exposed to 'alternative' points of view, which means at the very least he might understand where I am coming from when I 'come out' in future. But a more optimistic viewpoint is that he might start to see that the truth and actually give it some respect.
Maybe he thought that was a safe place to do a little research about where you are coming from. It will be interesting to see if he starts having trouble with a few things. Maybe he will start agreeing with you on some things.
Thing is, I've never discussed my new beliefs with him at all. I am still 'in the closet' with my extended family. I hope he does do a little research, but judging my his comments on one of Dehlin's FB posts, I think he is just there to troll.
What I am interested in is how he ended up there in the first place.
