I'm no bible scholar but surely a very broad view of the old/new testament shows that Christ supposedly came in the meridian of time and did away with all the fastidious, burdensome and excessive rules and laws of Judaism an introduced the two great commandments to love God and love each other. So why is it that Mormons are quite willing to be subjected to an ever-increasing volume of ridiculous petty rules (one earing, no beard, no coffee, wear underwear over garments etc...) that any right-minded person could clearly see doesn't originate from the same Christ we read of in the NT and even the BoM? How stupid can you be?

Because Mormonism is not about a relationship with Christ but following one's leaders and paying homage to Joseph Smith and later leaders.

Actually, Jesus did not try to do away with facets of Judaism, rather, he tried to reform and strengthen the practice of Judaism. His complaint was not that Judaism per se was at fault, instead, it was that many were not living their religion in all sincerety.

You mentioned that Jesus introduced the commandments to love God and each other when, in fact, he was merely reiterating what the Old Testament had admonished long before. He stated emphatically that he had not come to do away with the law, rather, to fullfill it.

Having said all that, you are quite right about one thing. He definitely did NOT envision anything like Mormonism. In fact, Mormonism would likely have been an outrage to Jesus.

And him being the "only way to salvation" only spoken to a tiny group of people in the "meridian of time" (which isn't true at all. Humans have been around for waaaaaaaaaaaay longer than that) isn't silly?

What about all the destructive stuff with the olive branch?

Not silly?

What about his support for slavery. Not silly?

Just curious.

Jesus taught in the Hillel pharisaical tradition. his message was one of obeying the spirit of the law as in the law was made for man but not man made for the law. since he taught a message very familiar to the Hillel Pharisees he was not immediately arrested when he cleared out the money changers at the temple. reading his teachings carefully he said the law would not go away until earth and heaven was gone. as far as I can tell it is still here.

He said heaven and earth will pass away, by his "words" shall not pass away. You can't really get all the rules from the Bible. I'm sure there were a whole lot more not included in there. The burden was gettin' pretty heavy.

Example of a silly rule:
Leviticus 21:20-21

20 Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;

21 No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.
