brought to mind one of the great mysteries of Mo-ism to me, to wit: What about it is so f*&^^!+ enticing to women!

They are consistently demeaned and put down, and as nearly as I can tell, if they do make it to the CK, their lot is to stay barefoot and pregnant for eternity. This is heaven?

So why, on average, are women even more stuck in the cult than men?

Women have to make more sacrifices in Mormonism than men do. It's the phenomenon of escalating commitment - the more you have invested in something, the less willing you are to recognize that it's all been for nothing. Also, women tend to be more relationship-focused than men, so women might be more afraid of the social consequences of leaving - the shunning, the impact on family, and the loss of friends.
