I compiled this funny timeline from a few different sources. Forgive me if this is old news to some of you:

12 April, 1961, Yuri Gagarin becomes the first human to travel into space aboard the Vostok 1.

14 May, 1961 - Apostle Joseph Fielding Smith announces to stake conference in Honolulu: "We will never get a man into space. This earth is man's sphere and it was never intended that he should get away from it." He adds, "The moon is a superior planet to the earth and it was never intended that man should go there. You can write it down in your books that this will never happen."

May, 1962, he privately instructs that this view be taught to "the boys and girls in the Seminary System."

20 July, 1969 U.S. Astronauts are first men to walk on moon.

23 January, 1970 93 year old Joseph Fielding Smith becomes church president.

14 September,1971 - Apollo 15 astronauts present to President Joseph Fielding Smith a Utah state flag that has traveled with them to the moon.

Funny thing, he made the first statement one month after the Russians had flown in space. He must have been part of the group that thought it was a hoax.

But some Mormons still hold that view. yah thats funny. and speaking of botched timelines/ Lds Prophecies, what about bonehead Hinckley being so anxious to distance LDS INC from the LDS polygamy of its MORmON past that Gordon came up 118 years between 1890 & 1998 ! especially funny considering the fact that the BS LDS movie "the work and the glory" made it a point to make fun of missourians for not being able to do math.

LOL! My scout leader believes in the conspiracy "theory" that we never went to the moon. Perhaps this is why?

It still amazes me that with all the evidence available some folks still believe we didn't go to the moon.

Actually, one of my cherished posessionsis a piece of Kaplan foil recovered from the command module of Apollo 11.

What is so funny is that on this date in 1962, we sent John Glen into space and he made three orbits around the earth.

Our idiot Mormon friend Grego would have been impressed, like I, if they had presented President Smith with bevy of Quaker hats, but a flag that could have been bought at Woolworths?

So where does the assertion that we have been flying back and forth to the moon with ease since 1960 when we established a joint effort base there?? LOL!

Don't you know the space shuttle was being used to take equipment and supplies to all the space stations we have in orbit around the earth???

Come on you guys! you're supposed to pay attention to the latest gossip!

Then of course, America now has the United States Space force, they just haven't put up the flag with it's emblem yet because they can't decide where to put the next flag pole in the park that flies all the service flags; Airforce, Marines, Army, Navy and the Coast Guard!!! :D!
