First, even though the Church has said they will not accept payment of tithing on gambling winnings, including the lottery, who wants to bet that they would change their tune if this ever really did happen. A member wins a hundred million off a Powerball ticket that he bought in a moment of weakness, or received as a Christmas gift, (I'm from the south, people give lottery tickets as presents) and how much you want to bet the church says he needs to pay tithing on it as part of the process of repentance. I mean, imagine all the malls they could build.
Second, tithing is semi-private. Of course you have tithing settlement at the end of the year, but you hand the Bishop a check for eight million dollars, he isn't supposed to ask where the money came from, only if it is a full and honest tithe. How the hell do they enforce a rule like that?
Third, how is not being allowed to pay tithing a punishment? What world do the GAs live on that they think that is a deterrent to anything?
