Something just popped up in my mind... A while back when I was goofing around in the reular LDS forum, the discussion of "why nobody questions the prophets" came up.

One of the long-standing TBM members chimed in with,

"Because we believe that the prophets are of God. Their words and decisions are inspired by the holy spirit. Therefore they would never / could never mislead us."

So I replied with:

"Oh really? Would / could never mislead you? Aren't you placing WAY too much trust in person? Are these prophets still human beings? Do they have their own individual thoughts and opinions? Do they still have their own free will? If so, then they absolutely CAN mislead. Weather by choice, or by accident-- they can. You should never blindly follow anyone."

Of course, they came back with their silly aruments about how "trust is important" as if they had never heard a word I said. But hopefully, there were a few smart lurkers, lol.

The prophets mislead the church when they say they can't mislead the church.

If they followed all the stuff that their dead Profits have taught they would definitely be mislead. They wait until the Profit is dead to question what he said.

LDS prophets never lead people astray????!!!

They do it ALL the time!

Ask these same TBM's if we should go ahead and read the Journal of Discourses then.

Teachings on polygamy, Adam-God, racist teachings, blood atonement, male to male sealings,...

How many times have we heard the excuse, "well he was only speaking as a man."

How many times has the LDS church had to revise its stance on something and then clean up its history? Why do you think they don't want members to read the Journal of Discourses.

For 150 years the prophets taught and allowed to be taught the doctrine of people who were less valiant in the pre existence were born with black skin here on earth. Now the leadership of the church says that was never really official doctrine and just a myth propagated by the membership.

The prophets mislead the entire church and now blame it on the membership.

The brainwashing on TBM's is deep

Since they contradict each other that makes no sense. Or maybe God just can't make up his mind.

I recall the Hinkster making the statement that we do not need to depend on the arm of flesh, since we have Joseph Smith.

WTF????? Was he (Smith) not human? Just ask about 3 dozen women if you really need an answer to that one!

And they wonder why others don't consider tham Christian. Seems like JS has taken the place of God himself.

"No man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith...every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are"

- Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 7, p. 289
--------------

“[There is] no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God"

- Prophet Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, v. 1, p. 190
