How did the church get money to build that huge mall? I thought they only made money from tithing, but in a news article someone posted on here somewhere it says no tithing is being used to fund it.

They have a lot of business income, and they might not think using it to expand the businesses is the best use.

They have enormous investment income. They don't give tithing to the poor, they put a lot of it in the bank and get investment income. That income isn't necessarily classed as tithing although it is a direct result of tithing.

But all the money originally comes from members at some point. Churches can't pick it off trees.

Of course, bottom line, no one knows because they won't divulge any meaningful numbers.

which btw, bednar just taught us in our stake that there is no such thing as "pre-existence". It's now officially, "pre-mortal life".

The list is not entirely current, but it does give you some idea of the extent of businesses that the church owns. Businesses generate income, and my guess is that the mall was built using this income.

People are not lying when they say that the church is a giant business corporation. It is.

and the Morg has been investing it ever since in real estate and businesses, including newspapers, TV and radio stations.

Don't forget all the money they make from selling magic underwear, money off missionaries that pay an "equalization" amount, subscriptions to church magazines, renting garments in the temple, selling meals in the temple, etc.

Some of those may not be big money makers, but the Morg does NOTHING at a loss.

The LDS Church has two sources of income:

1) Donations (tithing, etc.)
2) Revenues from investing excess tithing

Tithing is supposed to be spent on charity and church activities, so having massive investment money is a violation of their mission. That money should be spent helping people, not enriching the organization. The estimates of church expenditures shows that they are hording money.

Since all their investments came originally from tithing, all their money derives from tithing. If they buy land with excess tithing, then sell that land for a profit, that profit is still derived from tithing. They are lying when they say "no tithing money was used". That's just a form of money laundering.

All their money comes from tithing, and everything that goes into investments is just diverted from services to help church members and the world.
