You do realise that those riots are taking place in London and that neither of them live there as far as I'm aware? They are both from the North, no?

The 'riots' (it's really just looting) are now spreading nationwide. Now in a Birmingham (my home city) only 30 miles away.

Police helicopter was out at 10am GMT this morning. No idea why. Maybe preparing for the riot planned locally for Saturday?

I suspect my immediate area may not be affected but feral kids will find the quietest places to cause a rumpus so we're watching. So far very quiet and main information from the news channels but I'm not taking anything for granted.

I had planned going into Manchester but I've thought better of it, just in case. I'll certainly keep away from Blackburn and Bolton/Burnley areas as they are highly likely to be affected, given the 'multicultural' nature of the population.

Racism isn't my thing but at times like these it is difficult to keep a balanced view. I don't think the non-Europeans are doing themselves any favours right now, though I think feral white kids are jumping on the bandwagon for recreational rioting etc.

The rats are out of the sewers and they are all colours, nationalities and so-called status, so we can round them up, hopefully.

Questions will be asked in Parliament - they'll sort it out - yeah... riiiiiight.

My personal view - we managed to keep Hitler and his cronies at bay (albeit finally with US help - thank you Vets). This bunch of ferals won't phase us, we've been bombed, threatened, terrorised and undermined and we still stand.

British folks won't roll over - ever.

If anyone comes near my home, I will probably die but will certainly take any perpetrator with me.

I live on the ouskirts of London.... a 'leafy suburb'. No problems near me.
Although a couple of my friends live in affected areas (Croydon & Enfield), they tell me that they are alert and staying indoors, but havent been directly affected.
I guess the looters will concentrate on the town centre and retail areas.

IMO, This isnt about a kid being shot - although that *may have been* the original cause. Now, it isnt about social disaffection - although that is being given as an excuse. Now, this is simply about thieving.

He wasn't a kid, he was a man of 29 who it is reported was armed with a gun of some type.

Photos his family have released aimed at showing a peaceful, family man show him flashing gang signs. Yep. That'll work... :o/\

I am totally against the burnings and lootings BUT unfortunately this is the only way at the moment when those running the country take notice....!!! PEACEFUL protests do squat..!

Its crazy that people feel that they have to resort to these kinds of tak-tiks for the government to LISTEN !!!

Lets face it your gonna get people jumping on the bandwaggon who are itching for an excuse to loot and do all kinds...!!!

(Unusually for me) I agree with Matt

I was using the word, "kid", in it's widest possible context. I was not aware of his exact age, but certainly knew he was a young adult.

It seems he had a replica weapon........but, as far as I am concerned, unless you're a 'sealed knot' type, or an avid airfix collector, a replica weapon is just a gun that cant be fired - at the moment.

I have a son on a mission in London right now. In my last email (Monday) I asked how his mission is dealing with the riots, do they have a safety procedures to make sure everybody is ok...and most importantly is he safe. His reply was "what riots? We haven't heard anything about it from the mission home." Granted he is not in London proper right now...but his mission covers parts of London. Makes me so upset that they keep them so isolated and uninformed....how do they expect me to feel like they are going to keep them safe???

I am sure he will be OK. Don't fret, mum! ;o))

with my suggestion.

We have around our island some smaller uninhabited islands (apart from a few puffins, seals etc.) These are territories that have been used for various defence purposes in the past. Mainly they are in the outer something or other, in the cold North Atlantic briny.

If the feral folks aren't happy, then we could ship them all out there with a week's supply of food, a bag of drugs each and a gun. Boats optional and on request by pigeon post for those who see the light.

That way they can build the kind of society they really want and the rest of us can get on with the important stuff.

Just popped in to say that I think it's only a matter of time before the same thing starts happening in this country. They haven't starting burning and looting in Wisconsin... yet. But I really think push is going to come to shove and things are going to get really ugly here before they get any better. Frankly, I think it's the only way things could get better.

My mum got caught up in it on the way home from seeing my sister who is in hospital in London (near Peckham) last night. She said it was a bit scarey - her bus got stopped and they all had to get out and she had to find her was to an open train station, but some lovely people helped her through the back roads.
She said the rioters were all different races - black, white, asian etc, - the only thing they had in common was that they were all young, and mostly male. Don't want any misconceptions here!
Also the hundreds of people who came out with brooms, bin bags, dustpans etc to do the clean up this morning so everything could get back to normal were all races.
I am planning to go up and see my sister tomorrow. I won't take my kids as I had intended, but I'm not really worried.

Gang on youths tried to smash up shops owned by Turks/Kurds. When four rioters were beaten into a pulp, they all realised that they did not, after all, want to loot Turkish/Kurdish shops and ran away.

But she is really fine, and not even particularly shaken, just worried that people ( especially her daily mail Reading friends down the Mormons!) will go on about it being an immigrant or ethnic minority thing which she's seen first hand that it isn't

There were major problems in the area of southeast London in which I grew up. Sadly, that part of London no longer exists in any fashion close to what I knew growing up...it long ago lost its identity under a wave of alien cultures that on a recent visit appeared to have no desire to take on the persona of what was the resident culture.
