Col. M. says he read where one mopologist wrote that God hid the DNA of the descendents of the Lamanitess in order to test people's faith.

Has anyone else ever heard or read such a thing?

I was shocked to hear something so outrageous and ridiculous and could only reply, "Well, that is a God I would not even want to believe in."

That explanation is beyond belief to me. Did someone really say that?

It becomes one of more voices expressing the desire to defend against socalled 'scientific evidence' and such, totally irrelevant stuff...

I don't know if an apologist said it, but I have actually heard things like that from LDS members. Their desire to believe is so strong, that they will desperately cling to anything, even if it's as crazy as that.

It also helps them to feel even more that they are the elite - that even in the face of such a test, they've passed the test and still believe. Yes siree, they're the Lord's chosen ones alright.

I actually had someone say that God changed the DNA. Same reason, to test people's faith.

...that this kind of "testing" faith is the same as claiming almighty God to be a liar!? So we should trust in god because... he's lying ot us?

Yup, I got that one wrong, that IS exactly what he said, that a mopologist said God CHANGED, not hid, their DNA in order to test people's faith.

Well, my faith flunked the test.

My tbm grandmother told me that Satan had crated fossils to create doubt in Genesis creation story. After I expressed doubt about her analysis, my tbm grandfather, who was present, said I would be cut out of their will. Must have been. I didn't care then. Didn't care about will after both grandparents died. What I inherited was worth more than money. Decades before I finally divorced Mormonism, I thought my tbm ancestors may have been mental midgets. I was right.

This immediately reminded me of the creationists, who believe that god planted fossils in the ground, to fool people.

Yeah, or dinosaur bones to test us, or perhaps they were part of another planet. Geez. I think I even believed that one. *blush*

No different than God hiding every sword, bowl, coin and bone of the millions of early American Jewish immigrants, Jaredites/Nephites/Lamanites, all of them.

God can do anything, he's all powerful!!!!!

It's his honesty. Appearantly the mormons and christians forgot to mention the fourth attribute of god: Omni-decietful!

Did not think of that, I mean God has actually hidden a ton of stuff, like you said, all the remains from the days of the BOM, and even those golden plates, they were always hidden. How convenient.

From the LDS Gospel Principles chapter on Honesty:

"Lying is intentionally deceiving others. Bearing false witness is one form of lying....There are many other forms of lying. When we speak untruths, we are guilty of lying. We can also intentionally deceive others by a gesture or a look, by silence, or by telling only part of the truth. Whenever we lead people in any way to believe something that is not true, we are not being honest."

The mormon god has not only hidden the evidence (DNA , archaeology, anthropology, etc.), he has REPLACED it with completely contradictory evidence leading many to believe something that (according to mormonism) is not true.

The mormon god is a liar and deceiver, yea even by their own standards.

Could this be that the Mormon God was really Joseph Smith?

I am pretty sure HE thought so.

When God cursed the Lamanites with brown skin He borrowed the DNA from Asians. He did this because because it was DNA that had already been "field tested" in Asia. In other words, it was DNA that God knew already worked and produced the desired result. This explains why you can't find any Semitic DNA among Native Americans and why you can find Asian DNA.

This same guy told me he thinks the earth was "organized" which accounts for the fossil record. Pieces of earth were taken from much older planets and that would account for finding fossils that suggest the earth is much older than it really is.

This person is college educated.

Using this same so-called logic, one could well say that god sent joseph smith to tell fantastic stories and establish a false church (while at the same time behaving like a power-crazed sex maniac) to test our faith. If we were to believe such an insane scenerio, then we have failed and are unworthy of god's grace.

I don't think it's God Who's hiding the DNA. It's the dumbass mopoligist clinging at bits of straw who does this.

This article http://www.irr.org/mit/southerton-response.html discusses the quote I think your looking for. It doesn't say who made the quote. This is from a BOM critic with his responses to the apologist.

I been told the lamanites colonized asia mixing the dna with asians which proves why native americans are related to asians.

Somebody had to say it eventually: Is it more dishonest for god to hide evidence of Lamanite DNA, or to hide evidence of himself?

--The Book of Mormon gold plates

--The Book of Abraham papyri (at least until the papyri showed up, then they claim it's the wrong papyri)

--Lamanite DNA

--B of M archaeology, horses, chariots, skeletal remains, the sword of Laban, etc.

When you can't prove it, argue that God's holding it in the First Presidency vault.

Yeah, that's the ticket. It's all part of God's big plan to test your faith.

How convenient.

How stupid.

"The trickster deity breaks the rules of the gods or nature, sometimes maliciously (for example, Loki) but usually, albeit unintentionally, with ultimately positive effects."
