Always searching and never finding? Well, so are the archaeologists in Israel. Thirty years of digging finds little evidence of anything recorded in the Old Testament's Genesis being true. (No surprise to scholars of the Sumerian flood myth, otherwise known as the Epic of Gilgamish).

Sound familiar? It looks like Joseph Smith was not alone in storytelling.

"Beauty and biblical evidence both lie in the eye of the beholder, it seems. No evidence of the events described in the Book of Genesis has ever been found. No city walls have been found at Jericho, from the appropriate era, that could have been toppled by Joshua or otherwise. The stone palace uncovered at the foot of Temple Mount in Jerusalem could attest that King David had been there; or it might belong to another era entirely, depending who you ask.

Archaeologists always hope that advances in technology will shed fresh light on at least part of this ancient mystery: Did the Bible really happen? So far, what discoveries there are, tend to indicate that at the least, the timelines are off."

The part about the rain falling on the just and the unjust!

Also the apostle Paul describing the Bell Shaped Curve, in his epistle to the Scilians.

As a nation, Israelis are known for their obsession with archaeology...

...but, in the last 72 years or so, the archaeological finds within Israel, and in the surrounding areas, have been so frequently "off" when it comes to scientific dating, that for a fairly long time now, hardly anyone is surprised.

Since, on the international stage, the biblical stories have a great deal to do with validating the "right" of the Israeli settlements in the West Bank to exist (most settlement communities are composed of usually, politically, fairly-right-wing Jews, even those Jews who are secular), there is always a great deal of interest from the settlers in new, local, archaeological finds...

...as well as a coexisting, pronounced tendency to ignore any new scientific facts that do not fit in with biblical accounts (no matter how secular a secular Jew may be).

Dafke.

(An essential Israeli word which, in daily life Hebrew means (ironically, or with a touch of humor): "despite"...or "in spite of.")

Thank-you Tevai. That's an interesting spin on things. Everyone has an agenda to get funded. These excavations aren't cheap!

So, I sum the bible up by saying that it is "truly" a bus-full of Middle Eastern stories, some okay while others need to be taken with Prozac, handed down orally which, after re-tell after re-tell, were finally written down only to be altered and rewritten over and over and over and over.

Well, at least we got "Creeping Death" by Metallica. We have to thank the Bible for it! One of my favorites.
