Well if he croaks soon and Oaks gets to be head Nazi and starts his crackdown I hope it leads to a wholesale defection.

Raymond, AB...AKA Peyton PLace...or the shithole to the south where you can smell the self righteousness and condescension when the wind blows this way...maybe Mrs. Profit will get Bill Walker a seat on the 12....Raymond would be beside itself with smug glee if that happened....OMG

Not long, and hopefully Hoax won't either. The good thing about a number of them dying one after the other is it makes the role of profit visibly defunct. Members see that these guys get the role but are too old to achieve anything.

Another small but useful step to the truth.

That, and the likely chance that more of them will spend substantial periods of time in age related dementia or senility.

93 y.o. isn't necessarily a health indicator!

It all depends on how fast he wants to drive his new Audi.

He's reportedly in good health, and seems fit enough, but IMO once you've reached 93 or 94, you are on borrowed time. His dad lived to be about 93, and his mom about 90. So he does come from a long-lived family.

I agree. My g-grandfather was very active and healthy until about 93. His memory started to fade around that time, and then it went downhill very quickly. You never know. Nelson could live another 10 healthy years, or he could be dead or not even remember who he is within a year or two.

Based on wha I observed yesterday, he is in excellent health for his age. I guess a 5-7 years reign

I suspect his experience as a CT surgeon has given him a relatively rare perspective of the impact of lifestyle and diet on the cardiovascular system. Seeing hearts and arteries gunked up by crappy food probably underscored in his mind the impact of personal choices on health. Betcha he took it all to heart, so to speak, and has not followed a typical Mormon diet and has been relatively less sedentary.

I have a memory of reading about an apostle, when I was LDS, that in his 70's and still playing tennis. I'm not positive, but it's very possible that it was Nelson.

Also, those who still are socially active also live longer, especially those with companionship of some sort. He remarried not to soon after his 1st wife died.

Cardiovascular, I bet he is healthy for someone his age. I don't know if he has any medical issues.

Cancer, of course, is very possible the older he gets, but I am not sure how aggressive the various kinds of cancer that effect the geriatric community is.

Statistically, at Nelson's age it's very unlikely cancer will kill you. Number one, if you do get it, it's still more likely at that age that something else will get you. He's three years older than Monson, and looks and sounds better than Monson has in years. Still, at that age, you can decline really quickly. So, I dunno, I think at least five years.

I think genetics is a huge factor, with lifestyle playing in. For instance, my mom was about 80 when she died (with her share of bad habits, including smoking for most of her life,) and her own mom was about 90. So I'm guessing maybe 86 or 87 for myself, due to modern stress and other factors.

OTOH, my paternal great grandmom and namesake was reportedly 107 at her death, and she smoked a pipe up until the end. So you never know. ;)

He probably has a better chance of making it to 94 than I do.

https://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/russell-m-nelson-17th-church-president

He spent an hour in the hot seat at his coronation.

He was in control the whole time. Of himself, of the room, of his 12 underlings, of the conversation.

Looks like he’s in excellent health overall.

And I didn’t know he had a bromance with Oaks, but at one point they looked fondly at each other like an old married couple, and I thought they were going to smooch.

5-7 years minimum for Mr. Nelson. Could be 10 or 12 even.

Compare to Mr. Eyring, seated to his left, who looks like he can barely fog a mirror.

That is what I pretty much observed, too. Someone mentioned how long his folks lived so he has the genetics behind him.
And I bet, when it came to his health, as a doctor, he has practiced what he told his patients.

Anyone know if still gets some form of daily exercise? I want to say that I *think* I heard when I was LDS and he as in his 70's he still played tennis.

I can image 5-7 when a clear mind; 10-12 with cognitive decline

Ten or twelve more years for Nelson? The guy's ninety three. People that age just drop dead for seemingly no reason. You're saying that he might live to be 103 or 105 years old?

Statistically he has another three years. According to the SSA actuarial tables, he's got a one-in-twenty change of making it to 103 and an one-in-sixty chance of making to 105.

I personally know 5 people who are centenarians, 4 of which have a fairly decent cognitive abilities. So yes, it is possible.
Like I said, he has the genetics behind him. And I am willing to bet the man has led and even more healthy life that the average Mormon, being a cardiologist.

I am not saying that the 10-12 years will be quality cognitive years. I don't expect that. But live over 100? Yep, that would not surprise me.

The genetics are a big help.

Healthy living at that age is less of a factor. Once you get that old, it's more or less a crap shoot. (No pun intended.)

It's not about living healthy "at that age". He likely has been living a very healthy life, even more so than the average Mormon, his whole life.

He has stack the deck in his favor. Not to mention he has had the best healthy care that anyone can wish for. Like I said before, it won't surprise me if he lives over a 100, but that is not to say that all those years he will have good cognitive abilities.

Turns out they have been friends since 1965, long before being GA's

Having a wife 26 years younger than you can't hurt.....

BTW, she was born five years AFTER he married his first wife

May I suggest a contest?

How many years/months/days from his first day in his position until his replacement takes over.

Winner would get?? I willing to donate a $25 gift card to Crown Burgers. One of the greatest artery harding/clogging meal in the SLC area.

I agree with those who have suggested five to seven years.

We could create a pool, but that would be morbid, and far be it for me to suggest doing something that is morbid..
