It's that time of year again to nominate new songs for the hymnbook. Feel free to add your nominations.
I'll start this off with this one written by ML Gore. I often thought of this song when I did a lot of busy, useless work for the church. This Depeche Mode song has always come to mind when I think about the wasted paper and time spent on Sunday School reports and other quorum meetings.
Monument
When the site was found,
We laid the foundation down.
It didn't take long before
They came back tumbling down.
Don't build at night.
You need a little light.
How else are you going to see
What it's going to be like!
So we picked up our tools,
And we worked in the morning light.
With the last stone placed,
Wasn't it a beautiful site?
But it fell back down,
And scattered all around.
Anything passes,
When you need glasses.
My monument, it fell down.
My monument, it fell down.
Work all my days for this kind of praise.
It fell down.
Work all my days, it fell down.
