I was watching dr Phil yesterday. He was dealing with JW couple.

The wife was an apostate and annoyingly vocal, the husband quiet.

Dr Phil brought in a dude who started freedom of mind. He said he was ex-JW and set up business to help people leaving mind control and cult religions to leave and recover.

Lol today is supposed to be a tbm on the show.

Has anyone heard of this site or used this site?

I didn't recognize the "Freedom of Mind" name so I Googled it.

This is Steve Hassan's group.

(Those who are here on RfM might recognize Steve Hassan's name better than the "Freedom of Mind" name.)

P.S. Am I remembering correctly that Steve Hassan spoke at one of the Exmormon Conferences in fairly recent years???

Above link is the video by Exmormon Foundation of his talk at their conference in 2008

I was there. He also had group therapy sessions at the conference which I also took in. I read all his books and I endorse his work on the whole. His work was originally focussed on how a family could stage an intervention to save a loved one from a cult like the Moonies. He recognized later in his career that a forceful intervention could be damaging.
How to get someone out of a cult if they want to be in it? Can't be done

Thanks for letting me know about the Dr Phil shows.

He was also interviewed on Leah Remini's show about Scientology. He is excellent.

I saw the show, but for whatever reason, I didn't recognize Steve Hassan's name. Good for Dr. Phil. He always tries to get the people on his show the best help possible.

My neighbor is a JW and she is pretty annoying and very talkative, from what you say i think a lot of them are like this. They believe some weird sh#t from what she has told me. I kind of wish i had cable to watch the tbm, that could be very helpful.

I just noticed the "ex-JW" reference.

Steve Hassan is a former Moonie (not a JW), so I don't know if the person who appeared on the Dr. Phil show was, actually, Steve Hassan.

I saw that in the exmo video. Steve said to the couple , I was exactly in the same place you are and I totally understand what's happening. The way he said it, I assumed he meant he was a jw, but I stand corrected. Assuming gets me in so much trouble.

Several years ago. I couldn't find the link, but then I didn't look real hard after a long shift behind the wheel...

Here's his website:

https://freedomofmind.com/

He is, quite simply, the world's foremost authority on "toxic cults," and as noted was "Moonie" until his family intervened.

I buttonholed him with a question about the "succession issue" involving Reverend Moon --who dated back to the Nixon era--who was still alive then. He said he'd picked one of his sons as his successor; perhaps someone could update us on that as well.

Moon founded the conservative "Washington Times," and it's now operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Moon Organization.
