"If the U.S. contained just 100 adults, 25 would be people who identify with evangelical Protestant denominations, 23 would be religiously unaffiliated and 21 would be Catholic. Just two would be Mormon, two would be Jewish and one would be Muslim."

Based on 15 million members. We all know it is only 4 million..therefore that number drops to 1/3 of a person.

No, it's not based on 15 million members. Two percent of the US population is 6.5 million. That's the figure they're using for Mormons in the US. That's close enough to actual participating members to not be embarrassingly inaccurate.

US population is about 325 million.
Math. It's not just for breakfast anymore.

"Math. It's not just for breakfast anymore."

Seventy-year-olds can still do math?

Pew didn't get their numbers from the church. They came from public opinion polling. The people in their sample self-identified.

Of those 1.7 how many are practicing or active Mormons vs. having a Mormon social identity (by birth, childhood blessing or baptism for example).

I've never participated in a Pew poll, but it's likely the participants had the freedom to answer as they saw fit, which means (in my mind) that the held-hostage non-believer husband or off-spring could have selected something other than mormon. So I'm giving the stats credit, just as we give census statistics credit when they show how grossly the church inflates its membership numbers in some countries.

Funny how you left that one out of your title. Of course, if religions have the right to claim everyone they ever baptized as a member, surely I can claim all the unaffiliated as atheist ;)

Out of every 999 there are at least 2 or 3 HAPPY, helpful, knowledgeable ex-mormons.

The Jews have Mossad on their side.

And the IDF.

With whom would the 21 Catholics siding as the two Jews and the two mormons fought?

And would they, the Catholics, be buying shawarma from the one Muslim before entering the arena to watch the fight?

I gotz ta know!

Let's get an accurate roll call of the mythical combatants.
Groups AmyJo chose to omit from her thread starter:

Mainline Protestants 15%, Historically black protestants 6%
Christian 2%, Other faiths 2%
Hindu 1%, Buddhist 1%

This data is from 2014.

Never underestimate the ignored,as Mormonism is learning the hard way.

Title of Robert Heinlein's favorite sci-fi short story when he was a kid, about scalawags in outer space: "Pew - Pew!"

It's the only sentence in the article that has the word 'mormon'in it, so it makes sense, this being RfM, to use it.

But words have meaning... It is not the title of the linked article.

... Why oh why did she leave out the 23 people with no religion at all?
Among people under 40, they are by far the largest group.
In a few years, they will be second to none.

And even among those who self-identify as catholic or protestant, many probably only go to church for weddings and funerals.

So Amy, why did you leave them out?
On purpose, or did we just seem unimportant?

As an ex-Mormon I happen to find it interesting that Mormons make up a tiny percentage of the US population. And that there are roughly speaking as many Mormons in America as there are Jews.

The title came from another link to the Pew report.

Tried fitting other religions in the OP, but there wasn't room.

We all aren't as touchy feely here as you are, bless yer heart.

Mormon God can kick any other God’s ass. Gays are His Kryptonite, so he’s kind of afraid of them.

Mormons don't know what to fight about (without much - if any - accurate or factual knowledge) so they fight inside themselves.

Since you bring that up, it isn't common for active TBM's to be activists in the community to promote the common good.

Jews tend to get involved in social movements to benefit society.
