I know that the LD$ corp is a corporation sole which seems to mean there is only one shareholder at a time, in charge of the whole business. So who holds this authority during an interregnum between the death of one President and the selection of another? I.e. right now between Monson's death and the selection of Nelson.

I assume it ultimately has to be one person so it can't be the former counselors (who return to their place in the Q12 based on the seniority they had before being called as counselors to the FP) and I'm thinking it's probably the president of the Q12.

excellent question, the answer should be in the charter by-laws.

A lot of the power over the for profit side sits with the presiding bishop. He's more or less a stealth GA who has access to lots of the church finances.

There is also a tithing committee, so that can still function.

I keep forgetting they have a Presiding Bishop.

They used to make a big deal of having a Church Patriarch, too ... that sort of got dropped by the wayside. I might post a separate topic about it as it's kind of interesting though I don't know a lot about it.

Make the Mormon Church great again. Well, okay, at least make the church great for a first time. Pick a much younger GA to replace Monson. If the Catholics can pick a Jesuit as pope (an extreme unlikely choice in the opinion of most Catholics, until it actually happened), why can't the Mormons do something similar? Put someone in who will clean house and make the church honest.

"The King is dead. Long live the King."

(i.e., "the old one is dead; the new one is now King." Doesn't it happen as soon as the prior one quits breathing? The apparatus is in place so that the new one takes over immediately.

There has to be a coronation and all the official fol-de-rol, but in fact, the succession has already taken place. Or am I wrong on that?

According to the articles of incorporation it is cut and dried. It is the senior apostle. Correct me if I am wrong
