I've looked on CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX News, LA Times, New York Times and Washington Post websites. I cannot find a story about Monson anywhere on their front pages.

Monson is on CNN front page - it isn't in the top headlines, but in the sub-headlines right underneath them.

I first read it in the headlines on NBC this morning.

After rechecking it now it does look as though it has dropped off the online front page.

If you google Thomas Monson you will find it on all the national news sites, including CNN.

It was on the "scroll" below on NBC Today Show, ABC Good Morning America, CNN, and at least one local TV station this morning. But no full news stories.

Thanks Amyjo. Yeah, I think when I did a search this afternoon, it must have already disappeared (and it must have on all the other sites too because I cannot find anything). This kind of goes to show that Mormonism is really insignificant unlike what they would have you believe.

What its dropping off so quickly tells me is losing a Mormon church prsident isn't as newsworthy as it used to be.

He still isn't the pope, despite TBM rumors to the contrary.

;-)

I don't think this made the morning Print edition, but it's online:

It was all over MSNBC today as part of their Romney Hatch scuttlebutt.

ascent to room temperature...

I'm gonna steal that.

not so fast, because technically speaking it is a descent (going to a lower or less energetic position) not an ascent.

Are you sure?

I could see yours being an ascent.

The "ascent" is the funny.

I saw it this morning on a gay news blog I read. Needless to say, the commentary was...not complimentary. I should go back and mention that there's a whole string of old white homophobic men in the order of succession, so it's not like he was particularly special that way or anything.

I stumbled upon the Monson obit and the following (presently sole) comment at the WaPo

Reader 'pbofdc'

"Good riddance. You hate gays and you want Eternal life? I don’t think so buddy."

I wouldn't expect the comment to survive for long ...

It was all over my local feed news feed here in southern Idaho. Outside of the morg corridor, it'll be hardly a blip.

Yesterday someone uttered that Monson's death would keep Hatch and Romney out of the news. HAH!

In UT & ID, maybe, but not in the rest of the world. The websites of The Guardian and the BBC News put Hatch's resignation and Romney's ambitions on the front of their World News page. But no Monson anywhere.

I even did a search for Thomas Monson and Thomas S Monson on The Guardian's website and found no article since 2015.

So yeah, it was a non-event.

It being a non-event tells me there is a movement underway, not of the Mormon kind.

:-)

As for Romney running for office is much more newsworthy IMO.

That being said, imagine he'll have a front row seat at the funeral of Monson.

I subscribe to the Washington Post and read it in the mornings. A perk of being retired. I saw the WP front page link to Monson so I clicked on it. In the afternoon, when I went back to the Post, it was no longer on the front page. I guess it was a front page article for about 2 hours and then faded to obscurity. It went to the obituary section. It was not widely read and I commented on it before it disappeared. Mormonism is clearly becoming less significant in the US.

In the end there are so many sects, so many cults, and Monson is "just one more" who wouldn't even make the obits at all if he hadn't been such a nasty homophobe.

Since time began, this is the best Mormon God can do with his religion. Pathetic.

Mormons, odd, yes, but in the end . . . Just one more. Not even peculiar as they like to claim.
