In the article from the Ensign linked below, R.M. Nelson, the presumptive new profit, turns the concept of unconditional love on its head. According to Nelson, God only really loves you if you are "worthy" of his love. I could go on about the negative ramifications of this so-called teaching, but I would only be preaching to the choir. I will just say that no wonder a high percentage of church members are on anti-depressants, suffer from low self-esteem, and/or are plagued by feelings of guilt and unworthiness.

...and since mormons want to become 'gods' themselves, they practice this godly conditional love on their own children and other family members.

'Cause that's what Elohim would do, disown your kids & kick 'em out if they don't want to go on a mission, or they're gay.

That quote directly led to the complete loss of my testimony!

My testimony was long gone, but that quote helped me to realize that Mormonism is not Christian!

It also explained the despair, loneliness, and angst among the Mormons. Mormons treat each other competitively, with jealousy, and lack of empathy. It is a borderline-personality-disorder cult.

Love is not taught or practiced in the Mormon church.

God is Love; therefore, God is not found in the Mormon church, either.

Nelson is a fitting CEO of that Godless cult. Let the Mormons worship Nelson.

Yeah, just like the reason Christ died 'for everyone';

Oh, I guess that wasn't conditional.

Thanks for posting this. I have a few non-LDS friends in Utah who will benefit from seeing it.

In this article Russell M. Nelson says:

"Compliance with divine law requires faith - the pivotal point of mortality's testing and trials. At the same time, faith proves our love for God."59 (59 footnote: See Deut. 13:3; John 14:15; 15:6-7)

So the condition Mormons must meet is "compliance with divine law" which requires FAITH. Faith to me in this context is demanding a belief in and compliance with [Mormon] divine laws - laws which to me are not based in reality and/or provable facts.

As I picture Russell M. Nelson's world, he has two worlds: one is based on provable facts or science, while the second is one based on faith in the "divine laws" of Mormonism.

His authoritative, "doctor" prescription is given! Now follow it, and the P.S. would say (if he bothered to write it), "Do not bother me after this as I have spoken."

Mormonism is conditional. He doesn't know God.- Himself. Jack.

God's love is conditional - you must pay tithes so he can love you.

When I read that article years ago I thought Nelson was a complete asshole.
My opinion has not changed.

Russ Nelson had better hope that God's love is NOT conditional. He might have a rude awakening otherwise.

Russell Nelson better have a couple of wife- made, home-made, donuts on hand just in case God's love is a bit conditional.

Wow! If my shelf hadn't collapsed years ago due to the BOA, this would have completely obliterated it. As a BIC my entire life I was told how God's love was unconditional and we had to strive for that in our own lives. It seems to go against even basic Christian theology unless I'm completely misunderstanding my Christian friends.

Nelson... what a douche. Is he up next for the role of profit? I almost hope so. If this is seriously the kind of crap he's spewing he'll do more to kill the church than an army of exmormons spreading the news it's all bunk.

Yeah, Russ is now the #1 guy.

Yes, the most basic message of Christianity is that God loves you unconditionally. I am at a loss as to how this somehow eluded Russell Nelson.

From a reading of the OT and NT, I'd have to say this statement is very debatable. All the Bible-based religions are reward/punishment based. Commandment breakers are of lesser status with Bible God than the "faithful".
