I found a bunch of "Readers Digest" magazines from the late 30s
and early 40s at a thrift shop. I brought them home and started
leafing through them. One article that caught my eye was about
how blacks in the South really didn't have it so bad and were
content with how things were. The article was supposedly written
by a black man.

Today such things are seen for what they were, propaganda that
tried to sugar-coat the horrible inequities in their system.

Same for this kind of thing.
