LDS inc insists that members pay tithing regardless of their financial situations/ condition, but they never mention that Brigham Young suspended the Law of tithing when it suited him INSTEAD of relying on the promised supposed blessings of tithing that were so badly needed at the time
Gordon BS Hinckley loved to proclaim that MORmON tithing was biblical ....but biblical tithing was based on INCREASE, not on subsistence. .....If a person does not know the difference then perhaps they should do some research BEFORE mindlessly paying out any more at the dictate of self interested blood sucking corporate figureheads, who are not above making threats to get what they want.
If you make a million dollars and give one cent to the church, it's too damned much. The idea should be to starve the mormon church money machine out of existance. Let the GAs go out and get honest jobs.
Remember the "penny drives" the Primary Children's Hospital ran 50 years ago? (I'm showing my age, I know.)
Children at church would save all their pennies, and bring them in by the jars to donate to the hospital drive each year. They must have added up because it was a profitable way for the children's hospital to make a buck from donations.
While it wasn't a tithe per se, the hospital really did put that money to good use. One of my brothers needed surgery there when he was a toddler. The hospital covered his surgery in full.

Milking the [gullible/ most all] members (followers) so it can justify Meating itself in hell (on earth - as it is [or isn't] in heaven), where it cooks up its poisonous stew of 'spit and chew'.
As a Christian, I have always been of the belief that giving should be done only as able, and only to the organizations that the giver feels are the best recipients of their money. Toward the end of my time in the Morg, I stopped giving my tithes and fast offerings to the church and started giving them directly to local charities and food banks. I never had any problem telling the bishop that I had paid a full tithe, because I considered the organizations I donated to to be doing God's work. My wife and I frequently donate to the Lutheran church we are members of now, but our primary giving is to local charities that help the needy in our community.
One major thing the church doesn't emphasize is giving alms to the poor, or charity for charity sake.
It was a major departure for me when visiting other churches/synagogues since leaving the cult that their emphasis is on helping the poor and needy in the community.
The morg's focus is on raising funds to build more churches and temples around the globe, and to enrich the business men and women who make up Temple Square as career Mormons.
Completely different mindset that many former Mormons have had to encounter (for the better!)
My oldest daughter and her husband met at YBU. He is a descendent of Mormon royalty, and WERE about as true blue Mormon as they come. I never ever thought those two would ever leave the church, but they did AND it was because of tithing. They could not wrap reconcile the massive inconsistency of church projects like City Creek Mall, hunting/vacation retreats for the GA's, etc. It began to unravel them - a seed if you will - which grew and grew, later as I informed them about Horny Joe and his teenage brides. It's funny though, start gouging people in their pocket book to much, well even the valiant and noble jump ship. He he.
