He suffered from dementia for several years. He was only 64 years old.

Scary. He was too young, it seems.64? They said he's had it a few years, do that had to have been when he was around 60. That's only about 9 years younger than I am. I wonder what could be causing this at younger ages now. I can understand the football and hockey players .

I wondered if it was from his years of alcohol and drug abuse during his career?

His brother shared back in 2014 he was suffering from more than dementia ""He had quite a few things," Angus tells KISW. "He had a lung operation; he had a heart operation. He seemed to get everything hit him at once, besides his dementia. So he had quite a lot of things going on."

Malcolm Young's family confirmed his dementia diagnosis in September. AC/DC had already announced he was taking a break, while the rest of the group completed 'Rock or Bust.' By the end of September, Malcolm's retirement was official....

Stevie Young, Malcolm's nephew, replaced Malcolm on rhythm guitar -- just as he did in the late '80s, when Malcolm was battling issues with alcohol."

I saw AC/DC on a Sunday night at the Salt Palace when I was a student at BYU in 1982. Had seats in the 4th row. Couldn't hear a thing in my classes for the next 3-4 days.

RIP on the "Highway to Hell" Malcolm.

Angus and Malcolm's older brother George died in October. He produced much of their earlier work.
It's a sad time for the family.

March 2017 I was in Melbourne where this city actually designated and renamed a downtown street "AC/DC Lane". It is a living piece of art that regularly is transformed into new paintings.

I shot this video myself to capture what AC/DC lane looked like at the time. Our friends Downunder are quite proud of their homegrown band.

And what an amazing soulful and powerful tribute band.

Thanks so much for sharing your personal experience with everyone here.

(And thanks Amyjo for starting this thread).

The hours flew by all last night as I was compiling songs that hopefully captured AC/DC's amazing creativity, genius and influence on the rock 'n roll world, captured in their own words and music. I literally got chills listening through my headset and even shed a few tears as I was doing it. The breadth and depth of the band, and the personal commitment to pursuing its continuance and perfection all these years by its founders, Malcolm and his brother Angus, in particular, gave the world a band that, in its genre is unrivaled and which has influenced countless others around the world in their own love and expression of music

Your legacy rocks on, Malcolm. Thanks from the bottom of my rock 'n roll heart.

Thanks for providing that list of music, which IMO consists of a rather fine tribute to the band.

some of the really sexually explicit stuff, although that kind of material is not, shall we say, a stranger to the rock 'n roll format. That said, Gtandpa was still off-the-charts paranoid prudish about what he called the "jungle beat" thing. Horrors!

Thanks, Steve.

I tried to place AC/DC's original tune as the soundtrack except for the band or whoever owns the music rights, won't let YouTube have access w/o a lawsuit. Fortunately, I found the best cover tune available.

FYI - most musical groups/bands allow me to use their music on my YouTube videos (210 total, spread across four different channels) while claiming the right to post ads on said videos. I feel this is fair play and it exposes more viewers to the original music.

Come to think of it, Hill Cumorah with a rock and roll band stage set up at the base would be a great concert venue. This would generate some real gold! Instead of the battle of the Nephites and Lamanites we could enjoy a good ol' fashioned "battle of the bands."

Palmyra isn't all that far away from where Woodstock is.

As long as there's a Hill Cumorah pageant, it may be a long time coming to have a battle of the bands there - but what a venue it would make.

not really home grown though, they all emigrated from scotland for a tenner each on a special invitation from the land of oz to the homelands. they later said it was a slum in the sun; just like the estates they left, but warmer and sunnier.

Bon Scot actually could play a wee bit of the pipes and was the first rocker to include bagpipes in a chart single (unlucky paul mccartney & wings- you were beaten to the punch).

Edit: post in wrong place, should be underneath post about aussies and their 'own'. (not slagging off aussies as I have only ever met one aussie I didn't like)

ACDC won a whole legion of new young fans through the iron man franchise (and other marvel films) - wee boys everywhere singing about 'too many women, too many pills'. Ah the innocence of youth.
