Hi guys,

Making a trip to SLC this week to see Bob Dylan, visit some TBM relatives in Provo area, and attend the last Exmo conference. We love Mexican food in particular so hoping for recommendations of your favorite places. Any good sports bars too for Thursday night football.

Thanks.

Rio Grande Cafe in SLC is a go to spot for Mexican food when I'm there.

The Red Iguana for Mexican. Lots of homemade Mole. Expect to wait.

Ditto on Red Iguana. The Huddle in Cottonwood Heights is a great sports bar.

It's been a long time since I was in SLC, but I enjoyed The Red Iguana when I was there.

The original "hole-in-the-wall" on North Temple and there's the modernish "Red Iguana II" a block away. Oftentimes the original is buried, and I'll bring customers to the other when waiting time is problematic...

My recommendations:

Valter's (Classy all the way, including the owner, Walter)

New Yorker

Market Street Grill/Oyster Bar

Steaks: Pick one: Spencers, Ruth's Chris, Flemings...

Seafood: Market Street or the new one, Current

Brew Pubs: Better beer at Squatter's (I understand); better food at Red Rock

Best Japanese (sushi): Naked Fish; Tsunami, Kyoto...

Chinese: I hear good things about J. Wong's Bistro... P.F. Chang? Too pricey... Café Trang is no longer downtown (it was a regular Exmo meetup place) but there's one in Murray, still...

Others: Frida Bistro, Cheesecake Factory, Rodizio Grill (Trolley Square)

And a moment of silence, please for Lamb's Grill, which is no more...

I think Naked Fish is gone, too.

There's a new Mexican place called Chile-Pepin, although I've not been, my daughter and her husband have been and really raved about it.

https://www.slcmenu.com/2016/10/11/chile-tepin-menu/

It's also not far from where I work some nights and I've told a few guests about it and have had good reports from the couple that I've seen.

I think we've had this conversation before, but I've been to Red Iguana twice since I moved back to Utah in 2015 and I had a "meh" experience both times. I know I was in the minority.

The original Red Iguana is crowed ,small, and shabby and you will wait a long time. The food is good but you will be very close to the next table, probably wait in line and it is noisy. If that bothers you, you should be warned. It is not elegant ,quiet, or romantic but it does have its own ambience.I havent been to the second one, but I understand there is more seating

I'm holding out for Crown Burger. I hope the Doubletree hotel is close by.
