She was my middle son's cat for 13 years. I was her caretaker for awhile. Have not lost a pet in many years. It's quite an adjustment. She was his shadow. We knew she was getting close. She had some physical problems but hung in there, tapping my knee for a bite of dinner the night before, as usual.
She went outside when her Cat-Daddy left in the morning and laid down in the sun and took a nap in one of her favorite spots and passed away quietly and peacefully.
I like to think she is off finding her babies she had before she was neutered.
She was the smartest cat I ever knew. She gave us a lot of joy and laughter at her antics.
I chronicled some of her life with me and her Cat-Daddy on Facebook.

I am so sorry, Susie...

...I feel so much for what you are feeling now.

I am glad that she and your family had each other for those thirteen years.

My dog died a year ago. I expected it, but it was still hard. Sorry for your loss. A new kitty might help.

My son lost his beloved feline one year ago this month from feline leukemia. His cat was all of seven years old. He'd had it from a kitten and it went with him from Burbank, California to Japan.

It died in its sleep after its strength was gone.

In Japan they have a different way of cremating pets. Instead of giving the owner its ashes upon cremation, the "Cat Daddy" uses chopsticks to pick the bones from the ashes following the cremation, and then they are carefully arranged in a container from its skull to its legs. The pet's owner goes home with the skeletal remains in place of ashes.

He told me that's how people are cremated there as well.

Aside of all that, it hurts a great deal to lose a beloved pet like your son's kitty cat.

I relate to what you must be feeling too because his cat lived with me for two years while son was away at grad school.

He was a smart kitty like your son's, and very personable.

Sorry for yours and your son's loss, SuzieQ. Pets are family too. ❤️

Very nice i am not sure i know what a tuxedo cat is. Don't really study different cats but i am sure the cat looked good in a tuxedo ;).

A Tuxedo may look the same as a Sylvester (fel.thylvesterus)Cat but is far classier.

So sorry SuzieQ. Those fur babies become part of your life. Glad that she was able to pass peacefully at home.

It's a good reminder to appreciate our 17-year old cat while she is with us.

Our magnificent adopted Norwegian Forest cat only lived to 6 1/2 before cancer got her--gone within a month.

I'm not really religious any more, but the poem 'The Rainbow bridge' brings me instantly to tears...

There are many little kitties out there waiting for a forever home.

I'm so sorry, Susie. My cat is currently about 12 and a half, and he seems to get sweeter with every passing year. He likes to lie in the morning sun as well, and to gently put his paws up on my thigh when he wants his dinner. Someday when he is gone it will leave a hole in my heart.

The last cat I had was the kitty from hell.

Animal control had to come and remove it from my house with a trap.

She came from the SPCA and went back to the SPCA. My vet told me they lied just so they could adopt her out, and misrepresented her - he advised me to take her back right away as that is the way she was before she was adopted, and neither time or patience would change her.

Two months later and an animal control call away, I did just that.

It took two months because she wouldn't let anyone near her with a ten foot pole! Add a vicious personality to the list of other undesirable attributes.

As for destructive ... that was the tipping point for me.

I wouldn't mind a cat that's aloof or keeps its distance. This one was seriously a predator.

I felt bad for her when it didn't work out. The animal control officer thought she would likely be put down unless the SPCA was going to misrepresent her again to another potential owner. They like those adoption fees.

Oh yes. Feral cats can get like that. I adopted a cat many years ago that turned out to be totally nonsocial, couldn't touch her and had to the SBCA.

Understand. Losing a cat is terrible for us cat lovers. But your kitty did pass on in the way all cat lovers hope their cats will go. In 2011 I hoped for warm days so my cancer-afflicted male ginger tabby would slip away in the sunshine. Sadly, the warm days came too late; he began to suffer too much, and I had to put him down, which to me made the loss more difficult. My condolences to all of you.

Oh my. So hard to have to go through that.
We knew she was not doing well. Had planned to take her to the vet but she passed on her own. So glad she did.

It's been a bad year for pets. My cat passed away last February after 8 years of joy and happiness. Along came a pair of orphaned kittens. They're wonderful to have around.

My condolences.

I offer my condolences also. Pets are so sweet, love you unconditionally, just want to be loved in return. Siamese cats are the best , very dog like in their behaviour, they'll follow you everywhere, love sleeping with you, I know you'll always miss her . I still think of my cat that I lost when I was in high school. I'm definitely looking to find a dog and cat when we get settled in more
