You are always spot on with your cartoons?

The Las Vegas one should get a prize.

Tom wasn't that much older than me. Scary! I always thought, even back in the 70-80's, he had a thing for ol' Stevie Nicks.

There aren't many guys who haven't had a "thing" for Ms. Nicks

It had become something of tradition at Christmas time for some of us in the local Phoenix community to participate in a presentation of the play, "A Christmas Carol." I had a very small bit part. Stevie (who was born in Phoenix) also appoeared in the play. I had a chance to say hi to her during rehearsal. She was very pleasant, friendly, relaxed and unassuming. I was surprised how petite she was but that, of course, has never gotten in the way of her ability to belt out great songs during the course of her amazing career.

Watching her perform with Tom Petty in the OP's linked video, I was reminded again of what a voice she has and how gracefully she moves. No wonder Tom liked her. :)

Speaking of Stevie and Tom memories, here's some more.

The more I listen to his songs, the more I am coming to appreciate them.

They contain a variety of messaging and styles, combined with comfortable, deep musicality; thoughtful sophistication; understated elegance and magical simplicity.

He seems to me to have had an array of natural gifts, framed with a sincerity of delivery through his raw but soft voice that deeply connected him to his fans and his live audiences. I am struck by how he obviously appreciated those who resonated with his music, and how he likewise connected to them. He knew how to draw his concert-goers into the show, and he gave them the opportunity to not only sing along, but to in some ways lead and give direction to his performances. He respected his followers and they loved him for it.

To me, he seemed like an honest and gentle soul who sung from his heart--and who knew how to rock.

Open seating and the line extended around the block.

The folks in line started singing "The Waiting is the Hardest Part." Tom Petty came out and sang with us and shook various hands. Great night.

Here in Podunk yesterday, Garth Brooks had 2 shows on Saturday, in which he sang "I won't back down", as a tribute to Tom...

And 2 blocks away....

Peyton Manning and his family were in town for a statue dedication of himself. Security was Tight all over downtown even on top of buildings!

The veep (Pence) and wife are here for the football game today. Colts vs. SF49ers. Half time gig going on... Then he is going to Vegas!!!

Little big town for a minute....
