I'm pretty sure this isn't anything new.

But cleaning the temple! Man, that's got to be special! I bet they learn something new every time they clean!!

But the cleaning wouldn't be symbolic LOL.

I imagine a movie where satan says:
If you don't clean properly this temple this day, you will be in my power.

They may as well clean out the temple. The temple cleans them out.

Won't this destroy the "specialness" of going to the temple? If I still believed, it would destroy it for for me.

Yet another reason not to have a temple recommend.

My mother has has been a temple worker for 15+ years. She's been assigned to clean and do laundry (among other things) the whole time.

Haha oh man I guess I'm out of the loop my mom told me that and I figured it was something new I didn't know I never really went to the temple when I was a member (thank goodness) I only went once for baptisms. So do temple workers get paid? Or do they have to work for free? Maybe that's a stupid question but like I said I'm a little out of the loop haven't been to church in quite some time haha but ya I would hope they would at least get paid!!! So there not just completely wasting there time!

No pay for rank-and-file temple workers. That has been more that a little frustrating for me. Seeing my mother who lives off of social security work what is essentially a 20-hour-a-week job for no pay. She is in good health and *could* handle a part-time job to help make ends meet, but she "doesn't have time," because she's working at the temple for old busybodies who treat her like crap.

I wish they could be sued for exploitation of the elderly. I hope that some day someone tries, so it gets in the media.

Oh my gosh! That's awful! :( I cant believe with all that tithing money they cant at least pay the temple workers! But no I guess its more important to build big huge shopping malls! Ugh how disgusting I'm so sorry! That really is frusterating!

This is not new. That's been the custom since the Manhattan Temple started years ago. The stakes and wards in the temple district clean on a rotating schedule, which turns out to be once a year.
