The only difference between Mormon theocracy and Protestant evangelical theocracy is that it's from the bottom up instead of from the top down.

Why would anyone want this?

To me it's the same sort of thing done by the Taliban or DAESH.

These sorts of people desperately want someone to "lead" them -- to TELL them what to do (and think) so they don't have to figure it out for themselves.

And if they're religious, the same people want their leader to be from their same religion, because (as the bible says), any ruling king is there because god put him there. And if he doesn't do what god intends for him to do, god will remove him.

Life is simpler when the thinking has been done.

I've mentioned ad nauseam the girl who joined Islam because she said it made her feel so free. Why? Because she was told how to dress, what to eat, when to pray--that's a lot less decisions to make on your own, but.....free??

That kind of system also dictates who you marry, who you like, who you dislike, who you love, who you hate, how you think.....

It's a well-studied psychological phenomenon.
