paid $35 million for exclusive vending at BYU. Wouldn't that be a coincidence?

+1 on that.

I wonder why the church would pay $35 for the B of M printer's manuscript?

'The Church' didn't pay ONE RED CENT for the manuscript!

Donors (aka Suckers, "marks") did!

In my crazy mind, Don, I’m wondering if Coca-cola is present in more nations than Mormonism? I mean with BYU finally caving in, that leaves North Korea and possibly (?) without access to The Real Thing. Mormonism can’t claim that!

Here's a very interesting article regarding Coca Cola and its history:

Great article, thanks! I’d imagine it’s black market in Cuba. That’s really stupid given Cuba’s history as a bottler and use of REAL sugar instead of the high fructose corn syrup in the USA.

It's interesting that Coke didn't catch on in the Middle East and Pepsi took over instead. Maybe dubya was a Coke man.

You're welcome Boner! :-) True that (your comments about Cuba's bottling and use of REAL sugar). We always buy Mexican Cokes at the grocery store (I'm in Houston, TX), and those are also made with cane sugar. I don't drink a huge amount of them, but they are VERY good... much, much better than the high fructose corn syrup crap. Taste like two entirely different drinks IMHO. :-)

I agree that Mexican Coke is the best available. For you Dr Pepper fans, the best Doctor Pepper is made in Plano, Texas, using pure cane sugar, natch.

Oh, yes, one of the advantages of living near the border is Mexican Coke.
I mean cola, of course :)

I believe Kosher Coke, which we can get during Passover is also sugar not corn syrup.

Thank you sbg! I had no idea that Kosher Coke existed, but will definitely ask hubs about it since he does most of the grocery shopping (he actually enjoys it, lol)! Although neither one of us are all that observant (he's Jewish and I was raised Unitarian), we do enjoy and celebrate all the different holidays in our home and those of our family members. :-) Depending on the store, and especially the parts of Houston, product selection and availability varies greatly. Apparently, Kosher Coke has a yellow cap... I've never seen it, but then again, didn't know it existed... will ask him about it when he gets home!

There were coke vending machines everywhere at the Y in the 90's - just stocked with caffeine free coke and sprite

What I read about it: Church conducted some research and found that people like Coke and get it off-campus. So they decided to sell it at BYU.

What I didn't read but what seems glaringly obvious: margins on beverages are high and they should go to the Church's coffers, not some off-campus gas station.

Simple business decision (a.k.a. revelation). Plus now the Mormon kids can be cool too.

They said they are doing it because of the (student) demand(s)! Last year - and since (way before) 2012*2013 - when the morons first said it was [no longer] not a sin (no longer against the word of wisecracks) - they said there wasn't a demand, so it wasn't being sold on campus. Liars

Ordain Women - demand!
