Lyle Jeffs, FLDS bishop, ex-fugitive and brother of Warren, to take plea deal.

http://www.sltrib.com/news/polygamy/2017/09/20/polygamist-lyle-jeffs-expected-to-plead-guilty-in-food-stamp-fraud-absconding-case/

This pisses me off that judge Ted Stewart is still on this case. He's sympathetic to the FLDS. He's the one that released Jeff's despite pleas from State and Federal prosecutors that Jeffs was a flight risk. Stewart ignored them, Jeffs fled and led to a yearlong nationwide man hunt. I'm afraid this plea deal, like with other defendants will result in "time served" and probation. I wish he was being tried in Texas.

Kudos to cops (Federal, State. Or local?) in SDakota for arresting him!

Mormonism was never good about finding the worms in their apples, does anyone expect that to change?

He is pleading guilty.

Let's see how he's sentenced. That will determine just how lenient the court is being with him. Plea deals are designed to save litigation costs from going to trial. Not necessarily meant to lessen the charges because he pled guilty without a trial.

Maybe Utah is more favorable to his being a polygamist. There he has more sympathy no doubt than he'll get in other courts.

There's no"maybe" about it Amyjo. This particular judge should no longer be on the bench, much less this case. There were 17 people arrested on multiple felony counts of fraud and racketeering. Judge Stewart let them off with a wrist slap and probation. He has no business sentencing Jeffs. This operation cost US taxpayers millions, not to mention the Ten's of millions the FLDS defrauded the government. Plus, Stewart's release of Jeffs cost the US over 5 million to hunt Jeffs down and return him to custody in Utah.

Because Dave, it's Utah. Where law enforcement turns a blind eye to polygamy and our Attorney General takes $50,000 in "contributions" from polygamist businesses. We all know the church runs the state. If the church was serious about not practicing polygamy, the politicians and police could clean it up in 5 years.

I haven't followed the FLDS trials like you have.

I have learned that Utah has some of the most dismal laws on the books to protect children and women.

Just dismal.

Believe it has to do with the patriarchal mindset there that men are next to godhood, and women are their property instead of people with equal rights status.

"Believe it has to do with the patriarchal mindset there that men are next to godhood, and women are their property instead of people with equal rights status."

Nailed it. Most of the country has fallen for the squeaky clean, shirt and tie missionary version that mormons promote. Also, all that "family values" BS. They can't believe it when I tell them how women and children are treated here. Like chattel.
There was an piece on the news this morning. The legislature cut funding for school nurses. Now, instead of one nurse per school, each nurse will cover 4,600 students or about 3 schools. They love to pop out future tithers, but don't do jack shit to care for them or pay for them. They're on the bottom of the pyramid scheme.
