Sorry to hear (if it's true) that his "faith is intact."

That just means that though they kicked him out (for whatever reason), he's likely to go groveling back to them.

If it does turn out to be a sexual thing (sheesh, who cares!), it just slays me that grown up people go running to their church to fink on each other and allow their religion to have that kind of power over them. You're grown ups for cripes sakes.

I've seen a lot of Mormons pretend they're someone they're not in order to sound more believable. I'm not Mormon, but ... and then praise them highly.

Hamula according to the BIL still was faithful. If a person commits adultery, how faithful could he have been? Adultery is considered a major sin. I wonder if he is being blackmailed. Ex communication happens for serious offense, not watching porn. He would have been chastised but not exed. Maybe he's gay and wanted to come out of the closet by admitting he was in a relationship. That would get him exed.

My father was ex'd for porn and self-harm. My mom turned him into the bishop. He went through the Mormon sex addict program, repented and was rebabtized. You can get ex'd for almost anything.

I know someone who was ex'ed for a picture on Facebook where they were holding a cup of beer at a party. That's it, no proof they drunk anything, all they had was a pic.

You can be ex'ed for anything, it is Bishop's prerogative (or in this case, the prerogative of the 12).

One would think that for someone so high up, they would need more, but who knows.

Why not simply allow him and his family what shred of pride and dignity they have left?

Obviously he slipped up big time. But as I mentioned in a different thread the church sets people up to fail. So he did.

His family, sure. Him, not so much.

He was a BP. How many boys did he "counsel" about their masturbation? How many girls did he shame over multiple earrings? How many copies of "Miracle of Forgiveness" did he hand out as reading assignments?

He was a SP. How many disciplinary courts did he preside over? Did he excom anyone for adultery or fornication? How intense were his inquisitions, and how much detail did he demand?

He was a MP. How many times did he berate his missionaries for not baptizing enough? How often did he demand "exact obedience" to his arbitrary rules, and blame the missionaries for not meeting those ridiculous standards?

If the answers to ANY of the above questions are not "zero," then on top of everything else he's a goddamned hypocrite, and fully deserves to be dragged through whatever open sewer the cult has planned for him.

As an Area Authority, he was part of the deal that screwed over the faithful Maori members in New Zealand.

Hamula has been a church tool and lackey his entire adult life. There's no telling just how much damage he has inflicted on ordinary members in his official capacities.

Assuming the post is legit, what would a person that high up have to do to get the church to give them the boot (and thus draw attention to themselves)? I'm convinced that he wouldn't be the first GA to commit adultery, so I have to believe they would turn a blind eye to that. It is either apostasy, or we are about to hear some messed up shit soon.

I would sure sympathize a lot more if I didn't dislike Mormon leadership so much. I hate to speculate about the problems of real people who are really suffering. But again, I'd be more prone to sympathy if I felt that the church leadership had been even-handed with the membership.

His wife and himself need to work out more, get in shape, and screw more in the bedroom.

However, he may have found himself tired of the same magazine spread and needed that newsstand magazine with a different woman on the cover to get aroused.

Oh boy. There are so many reasons he could have gotten in trouble with the LDS Big Shots as he is in a position of authority and confidence. This means he confessed some big sin.

Apparently, he is still a believer. So, he committed some sin that the big boys decided is grievous enough to excommunicate him along with the belief he will repent and come back into full membership.

What did he do? The possibilities are many: misuse of a checking account/money, too friendly with a female, and all that could entail,(love child?), business illegalities, some kind of criminal action, misappropriation of confidential information and on and on.
There is no privacy when the LDS Church makes the announcement to all the world. Speculation will run the gamut. The only clue we have is that it is not: disillusionment or loss of faith. I'd rather it was, of course! Then the other stuff wouldn't matter unless it's criminal in some way.

My concern is for his family. This is pure abuse of them. Will the family stay together? Who knows. It's disastrous.

One thing I know for sure is that the rest of the brethren in positions of authority are checking themselves and making sure they are shaping up or hoping they don't get caught in a similar web. My guess is that there are plenty more that are doing something they don't want the higher-ups to know about and have not, or won't confess. The cost is too high.

Consequently, I think he discovered financial wrong-doing, insisted it be stopped, then when told to stfu, threatened to go mainstream. They threatened back and voila, here we are.

I know from personal information that GA's are using church assets for personal enrichment. How do I know? I was engaged to a man whose sister and his whole family had left the church. I was curious about why they left. One day his sister invited me to her lovely East side home and told me how they had donated the empty lot next door to her parents home to the church. The ward building had no parking lot and it was her parent's last wishes to give this property to the church so that the members of their ward would not have to park on the street.

A few months later construction began on an apartment building on the lot they had donated!! Through public records, they found the property listed as being owned by the son of a general authority. This was in 1986.

So I say it's about money--count me in on the pool!

Kathleen, have you seen the mormontips.com ads? It's a group headed up by Fred Karger, attempting to gather enough material (and I believe that includes stories like yours) to take to Washington to try to abolish tax-exempt status currently enjoyed by the Mormon church.

Someone on this site can tell you the money making real estate speculation shenanigans of church authorities, their family members, and friends after the church announced the new temple in Nauvoo. I'm not sure if she wants to, but she could. How I remember the story, though, is how Mormons who had advanced noticed bought up a lot of real estate, speculating that members would come there to see the temple, and even to live in Nauvoo after the construction.
