I was having lunch with a good friend. Went up to the buffet and there they are.

I said "Hi, how long have you been out"?

The Elder looked surprised and tried to explain he was a missionary for TSCC. I replied, "I know, i used to be one and said i served in x mission 20 years ago, and the guy with me served in the mission over 22 years ago".

Both missionaries smiled, "so you're in this ward"?

"No" we both replied. "I left 3 years ago and he 6" we responded.

They started to ask why but we said we were busy and had things to do and said goodbye.

I think they were puzzled, meeting to Exmo RM's that were friendly but couldn't care less about chatting about the church or its issues.

Yes, it obviously pays tithing and is thus blessed by the laird.

Your lack of horns threw them off.

Many, many times, since resigning, I have interacted with missionaries, providing food for them, giving them a lift if they are walking during nasty weather, etc. (Only while driving with DH, if the mishies are guys.)

When I tell them that I left the church years ago, it's clear that they feel some kind of disconnect between an apostate and kindness. Like, those two qualities should not go together.

Sad.

In-around Seattle, a Mormon family owned the Pizza Haven stores, I'm sure they're Long Gone.

I don't understand. What did you mean by "out?" Were they gay?

Why did you ask them and then say you couldn't talk?

Nobody was gay in the event.

As for not talking, we were standing at the counter so it seemed appropriate to say something. They wanted to turn that into a much bigger dialogue, maybe thought they saw a reactivation opportunity or something, but we'd just put the pizza on our plates and standing there explaining the BOA or Helen Mar Kimball at the Pizza Hut buffet counter didn't seem like the way forward (too short to crack a shelf) so being nice and and leaving them wondering why two polite guys who were RM's had both left the church seemed reasonable.

No doubt we're down as porn addicts, closet homosexuals, or offended by someone in the ward. But it allows room for the question to come up.

Plus in the unlikely event i see them again they'll assume a less threatened stance.

Well, you were two polite guys on a date at Pizza Hut.
Just sayin'.

>>What did you mean by "out?"

How long have they been on ("out in") their mission. It's one of the first questions my wife and I ask newly transferred missionaries in my wife's ward.
