Only in America could (and did) this religion take off the ground running.

From its early Americana folklore imagined, inspired, and plagiarized from none other than its original founder - it was a design plan as flawed as it was - that would grow and gain followers into its zenith.

Though now in decline except to the faithfully few, there are those who still believe in its "promise" by paying, praying, and obeying.

As uniquely American as it is, is it any wonder it is the richest, strongest, and most powerful religion to be born on U.S. soil?

It is uniquely powerful in terms of wealth for now. The Seventh Day Adventists active membership is close to 3 times that of the Mormon Church. If I remember correctly they are now claiming 17 million members. Even the JWs have an active membership north of 14 million. Mormons are losing out in the world of American based religious competition.

Interesting. The Seventh Day Adventists may be more transparent in its member rolls. If the following report is correct, it too is losing many members as high into the millions of followers similar to how the Mormons are leaving the LDS church in droves.

That they both started around the same time as fringe religions, both led by false prophets ... the Internet seems to be catching up with it as well.

America was the first modern western country that did not have a state religion or established ecclesiastical hierarchy and anyone anywhere could create any sort of religion. Sidney Rigdon, Joseph Smith, et al were just one group out of many in the religion business.

There's a sucker born every minute, a person who'll believe anything and pay for the privilege of doing so. Allowing the economic exploitation of this was an American innovation.
