I suggest "embellish" as the new buzzword.

As in: Maybe JS "embellished" his stories about seeing God/Moroni/Nephi/one or more angels/John the Baptist/Peter, James and John.

Maybe he also "embellished" the bit about an angel with a sword.

Maybe BY "embellished" the parts about blood atonement, Adam = God, and Africans being cursed.

Perhaps the denials about the Strengthening Church Members Committee were a little bit "embellished".

Perhaps the Proclamation on the Family wasn't really revealed by God to guide us in these Last Days. Perhaps that part, also, was a little bit "embellished".

And so on.

I was going to say that. When the Dunn story broke the church's spin was that they were true stories that he just embellished a little for the sake of making it a spiritual lesson.

Yeah, it was true that we were at war with Japan and there were soldiers in foxholes. He just embellished it to make the story be that it was him in a foxhole and a tank ran over his helmet or whatever and he was only one of 6 who survived and the only one who wasn't wounded.

It is true that he had buddies in the Army, just embellished a little to say that one of his best buddies died in his arms.

It was true that there was a baseball team called the St. Louis Cardinals, he just embellished it a little to say that he played for them.

So, yes, it's true that Jeff Holland told a story about a man who was inactive and became active again in the church. Just a little embellished that his long lost brother accidentally knocked on his door on his mission and that he was like, "wow, I should have had a V-8" or "Wow, the spirit is amazing," or whatever.

Interesting how a new buzzword gets set-up, and put into full action.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Would be interesting to be in Utah, and hear it put into common usage overnight.

I guess we need to ponderize the embellishments.

I couldn't resist.

[embellish (v.), "to render beautiful,"

from Old French embelliss-, stem of embellir "make beautiful, ornament," from assimilated form of en- + bel "beautiful,"

from Latin bellus "handsome, pretty, fine" (see belle).

Meaning "dress up (a narration) with fictitious matter" is from mid-15c.]

So this describes the perennial trick used by flim-flam men like JoeCo to gussy up fake scripture designed to hose the world.

Thusly, old and modern Moron shysters have tried to "embeautify" their purloinings of every kind of useful text.

The real problem was that Holland didn't ponderize enough about the story. If he had, he would have known that the story was BS.
