"If the Mormon church is so confident that it is what it claims to be, the one and only true church of God on the face of the Earth, that they maintain the worlds biggest standing army of missionaries to go proclaim that message, then why don't they just open the Predident's Vault and let us see what's in there so we can shot it from the rooftops?" John Krakauer, UtBoH

Wait....Themyscira is not on that list; because a secret island with nothing but beautiful amazon women on it would be something Joseph Smith would want all to himself....

Don't forget the hole under the north pole where the lost 10 tribes live.

There is one on the list that I have visited: Cheyenne Mountain. A relative worked there and was granted permission from the CO of the day and we were given a minor tour.

If you remember at the end of the movie "Wargames" it showed the situation room with all those large screens. I saw the real room and it is quite small with a windowed wall on one side that was a conference room. This is where the CO of the day briefed us one what has happening and how the chain of command works in that facility.

My parents took a tour of Cheyenne Mountain, too, due to a special access as a ex-military group of veterans and spouses. This was before 9/11.

Doubt that this kind of tour would ever happen again.

Yup. NORAD planned on closing it to the public before 9/11 happened if I remember correctly. Before this, local schools and tourists could apply to have tours of parts the facility. My brother went on one such tour in the mid 90s and while seeing one of the rooms, he and the group were quickly escorted outside of the rooms as something "had happened."

It's basically a city under mountain and completely self-sufficient, so if the near-by semi-conductor plant explodes, it will be safe.

Now that it is mentioned, it was before 9/11.

When Reagan first got to the white house he was excited about visiting the War Room he had seen in the movie Dr Strangelove.

He was so sad when told it didn't exist anywhere but in the mind of Kubrick.

One note from that list:
The "Vatican Archives" are not in Italy.
They are in the sovereign state of Vatican City :)

When I worked for the COB in the historical department, our boss took us there one day to let us see inside it. Security was light and we didn't have to show ID. It was HUGE! Lots of documents, papers, and microfiche, but no golden plates or sword of Laban. I don't understand why it is so huge and why the need for strict access. Maybe it's some kind of refuge for the Q15 if there were some kind of natural disaster or war. Otherwise I don't see why it has tight guardianship worthy of Ft. Knox.

The Granite Mountain Records Vault was built to store, among other things, microfiche which is made of materials that are somewhat unstable. In other words, heat is bad for microfiche and the natural temps inside the mountain are ideal. As I recall, most of the data stored in the vault is genealogical in nature. Over the years I think ChurchCo has been fairly transparent on what the vault is and its purpose.

I don't think this vault has the 'good stuff' e.g., the Hoffman forgeries, early documents, etc. that the top 15 want to keep from the eyes of the LDS population including staff @ the COB and lay leadership. Those things that only the top brass are to have access to are in the First Presidency Vault. And I would imagine Ensign Advisors has some sort of secure location for the business related documents and artifacts they use.
