Why are single TBM men older than 26 years old who are otherwise deemed worthy by the Church effectively banned from any and all kinds of missionary service? This same standard does not apply to single women who can serve at any age. Just something I have always wondered about...

Basic physical development. 26 is when your brain finishes developing into that of an adult. Before that, you're easier to manipulate. That's why the military prefers soldiers under 26.

I agree. When you get to a certain age, you are not going to allow yourself to be treated the way they treat the young missionaries.

Absolutely right. A 27-yo man has actual life experience, is very possibly a college graduate and has held a job for several years. He's not going to allow himself to be ordered around by an immature 18-yo ZL with no life accomplishments who went directly from mommy and daddy's house into the mission field.

I'd never before given it any thought, but you all are totally correct.

My best guess would be they learned from experience that this age is NOT ideal for their image and expectations of male members.

Younger men are ideal before their marriage and careers. They lack experience of life, are more pliable/easily influenced to others ideals laid out for them. Psychologically, younger men do not "come into their own" until they are past 25.

The church expects young men and women to give to the church and support THEIR goals and priorities first. Bring new members, Bring spouses, Bring $, Bring babies...until you have nothing left to give.

Church Inc. puts a lot of focus on where a person will be most "fruitful" and advantageous to THEM.

In my experience no one should make major life decisions until they are past 30. Most people don't have a clue who they are and what they want out of life until then.

YOU (especially) youth (and elders who have proven their worth - in terms of financially supporting tscc) WORK FOR US! Repackaged - it's the thing you must do or you'll die.

Also: a man is [should be] smarter at that age than he was ten years earlier, at 17-18. A boy's family may help / support him but may not have that same support/ backing after his mid-20s.

That really shouldn't be a problem. If a male in his late twenties had the financial wherewithal to serve a mission, he could apply. If he didn't, he wouldn't. Because some or even most would not be in a position to finance it is no reason to disqualify everyone of that age any more than it would be a reason to disqualify women in the same age bracket.

It's a lot harder to manipulate a 27 year old.
