The church is teaching about apostasy this Sunday (lesson 24 from the Adult Sunday school class).

You know the drill...

You left because:

(1) You were led away by false prophets or false teachings
(2) Pride
(3) You are critical of a leader or the church
(4) You are offended
(5) You want to sin
(6) You want an easier life/church

Expect people to post here after the fact, or read the lesson early and post here. I believe this has already started.

This is especially hard on exmos that still live with TBMs that will attend this class as they will most likely come home and start an argument with their new found "knowledge".

Prepare yourself in advance...

I know my wife is going to receive this lesson, and she is already upset with me leaving.. she's probably going to let me have it right when she gets home.

Getting bitched out for making a personal choice of your own????

You may want to rethink your relationship w/your wife.

I have no clue as to your wife's receptivity to facts, but this might be useful, re. the "cream episode." Maybe you could leave it where she'll see it before Sunday.

Reading the lesson you linked to: They're still trotting out Marsh as the poster child of prideful apostasy? He was one of the few Mormon leaders who had even an ounce of integrity and a sense of moral outrage at what Joseph Smith was doing.

Agree. Trotting out the Marsh story is like trotting out a Paul H. Dunn story as real history.

And a "church" lesson on why people leave? Not a lesson on the love of Christ, like, you know...in a Christian church?

Cult. Tribe. Closed circle.

Yeppers, thank you and good luck. The lesson recommends avoiding those who will tear down one's faith so seems your wife will shun you. And the lesson instructs not to debate doctrine so she can't have a conversation either.

Mormonism destroys loving relationships.

Then the lesson contradicts Mormon scripture:

D&C 71:7-8 says that you should engage church critics and urge them to 'bring forth their reasons' against the church.

Really gross that a suggested method is to ask members to read 'scripture' (the entire lesson except for 1 verse is D&C), etc and hand them what to read, per usual. But! Spell each person's name 'slightly wrong'.

So sick!! It's normal to say, 'oh hey, my name is spelled..' but no. It's deliberately set up to announce, 'can you believe someone would apostsize for THIS?'

Vomit worthy.

"Presiding Bishop H. David Burton taught:"...'Satan'...encourages us to view pornography by suggesting that it prepares us for the real world."

What the actual hell does that even mean? Nobody ever says that, unless you're a mormon bishop making weird shit up.

2. Additional counsel about how to strengthen ourselves against apostasy
Elder Carlos E. Asay of the Seventy specified the following things we can do to strengthen ourselves against apostasy:

“1. Avoid those who would tear down your faith. …
Such as your own family members.

“2. Keep the commandments. …
Except for Joseph Smith and Brigham Young...they were exempt. Especially about the one concerning adultery.

“3. Follow the living prophets. …
Not the dead prophets. They were wrong. We threw them under the bus.

“4. Do not contend or debate over points of doctrine. [See 3 Nephi 11:29.]
Because if you look behind the curtain you will find the truth.

“5. Search the scriptures. …
Just gloss over D&C 132. I don't know that we ever taught polygamy.

“6. Do not be swayed or diverted from the mission of the Church.
Pay, pray, obey. We want your money to acquire more real estate for building up our empire, er, Kingdom of God.

“7. Pray for your enemies. …
Don't let their happiness be confused with their wickedness and desire to sin.

“8. Practice ‘pure religion.’ [See James 1:27 and Alma 1:30. …
But only help those who might be a prospective member...don't waste your time on those who simply need help.

“9. Remember that there may be many questions for which we have no answers and that some things have to be accepted simply on faith”
This is how we get away with making up whatever rules and regulations we want (and change them when we have 'new' revelations) and make all the members follow them without question.

I am SO glad that my entire family is now OUT of this sorry tangle of nonsense.

None of the kids or grandkids will have to be told that Mom/Grandma/Oma was a terrible, evil person for leading the family out of the Cult.

Flashing back to that fabulous Father's Day, watching my RM son swigging a beer on a hot day.

Exmo life is sweet!!

One comforting aspect of when the church messages this way is that at least some of our family/friends will recognize it as an oversimplified, if not entirely inaccurate, representation of reality. For those that do, their perception of the leadership of the church is irrevocably altered.

Edit: Spelling.

On Sunday, I'll be sleeping in, mopping the downstairs floor, helping my wife with her job application, helping our youngest prepare for three tests at school, smoking a cigar while drinking beer (I'm good at multi-tasking like that), watching the F1 race, cooking an elaborate dinner, doing a bit of coding on my hobby project, watching some TV.

Since I don't do the Facebook thing or any other social media, all of the above will still leave enough time to hang and do nothing, especially not worry (or even think about) what is taught in the SS (nazi pun intended).

It's good to be an exmo.

What's odd to me,is that just not believing isn't seen as a valid reason to leave. We evolve with new beliefs and ideas all the time that shape our reality,so why not something like religion?

TSCC gots to reinforce the shunning behavior, lest Mormons become softened towards ex-Mormon family members, former friends, or spouses.

Gotta keep the hatred up and running.

"Don't waste your time on those who simply need help" or friendship, or love. Only the faithful Mormons deserve your consideration.

Where's Christ in all of this?

I used to think that Joseph Smith was the subject most talked about at LDS church, but I think I've changed my mind. Apostasy might be the winner these days.

I accompanied by TBM husband to church on Father's Day. Every talk mentioned the evil and misguided people who leave the church. So glad I went so Mormons can put me in my place.

Thanks for the heads up, Yeppers. I usually get the silent treatment from my TBM husband for a week after lessons like this one. At least this time I'll know why. I'll have to find a good book to pass the time.

After serving 5 years as a YSA Bishop and nearly 10 years on the High Council, it came down to this:

FIRST:

1 Thessalonians 5:21 King James Version (KJV)

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Matthew 24:24 - For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

1 Corinthians 14:33 - For God is not [the author] of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Matthew 7:15 - Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

SECOND:

Acts 17:24 King James Version (KJV)

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

THIRD:

Galatians 1:8 King James Version (KJV)

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:9 King James Version (KJV)

9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

FOURTH:

1 Thessalonians 5:21 King James Version (KJV)

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

In the end, the LDS Church and it's prophets, seers and revelators ARE FALSE. Not one can substantiate or refute the mountains of evidence that stands as a witness and testimony against it. From the journals of the many wives of JS and BY and many others had, the fraud conviction, reputation, divorce, adultery, documentation in the Library of Congress to the denoucing from Smithsonian and the BS Book of Abraham/Facsimile and a multitude of other blatant lies......the Church of LDS (Lucifers Dedicated Servants) remains fully aware and fully engaged in perpetrating their oath and covenant to deceive.

From the BoM

2 Nephi 28:21,22

21 And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell.

22 And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance.

Thank God for being able to break away without going insane. The cost was immeasurable but.........

Matt: 19:29

Matthew 19:29 King James Version (KJV)

29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

I would love to express this in a sacrament meeting....but I know how it works. The mike would be shut off and i'd be escorted out of the building.

I left because it was ALL A LIE

You CAN totally use the Bible itself to disprove Mormonism. I've done it, and you will find out that the Bible and the teachings of the LDS church is NOT in harmony, not even a little bit.

What really did it for me was Matthew 24.

Book of Mormon was published in 1830.

Matthew 24 was re-translated by Joseph Smith in 1831.

You can find it hidden away in the PoGP called Joseph Smith - Matthew

Why was it re-translated so quickly after the BoM was published? What was the threat?

Simply put, Jesus himself said that he would appear to no-one before he comes back, so if anyone claimed to see him, they were a liar.

This was a problem with Joseph, and he had to very quickly re-translate Matthew 24 to change the context so it didn't conflict with his story.

I find it hilarious how I was taught by Mormonism that it was so important to remain strong against those who would lead me astray by lies. When I learned that the biggest liar in my life was LDS, Inc., alias TSCC, I suddenly realized that the very people who taught me I must be strong in following truth are those who now claim I am weak for rejecting them. I know how strong I am being by resisting their shaming, shunning, derision, and character assassinations. It is they who are weak.

The sad thing is that once a TBM is convinced that list is the only reason you left, nothing else you say will get through to them. It's all about losing your testimony and being led away by that wily character - Satan!
The worse part? The TBM uses Mormonism as Parental Alienation in way too many cases to teach a child to hate the other parent.
They divide up their family: You're following Satan. We're following Heavenly Father.
Personally, I call this abuse.

I would also like to point out that the lesson teaches this (found near the end):

--------------
President Harold B. Lee taught: “If [someone] writes something or speaks something that goes beyond anything that you can find in the standard Church works, unless that one be the prophet, seer, and revelator—please note that one exception—you may immediately say, ‘Well, that is his own idea.’ And if he says something that contradicts what is found in the standard Church works, you may know by that same token that it is false”.
--------------

So if it didn't come from the church, it is false.

Interesting that in the temple ordinance, SATAN makes an appearance.....and says......if you don't abide by the teachings and precepts taught here today....you will be in my power.

Why is Satan getting ANY airtime in something that they revere as so sacred.

Satan has a very prolific role in the LDS church.

One of the first rules of salesmanship....the worst thing you can do is to speak of your competition. It's free advertising......Don't do it. Why would you????

So why speak of satan sooooo much???????

That's all they do......and in the final moments of the video of the temple ordinance/endowment....Satan makes his appearance and does so throughout the video. As I've said before.....LDS.....translates to Lucifers Dedicated Servants.

And they have no idea.....that they are following the author of all lies.
