This is an awful, awful tragedy. It has - and will - blight so many lives.

However, BBC News programmes were able to report a couple of positive, genuinely good aspects regarding this atrocity.

Firstly, many Manchester taxi drivers on duty round the area of the Arena came forward offering lifts - free of charge - to people caught up in it, to help evacuate the area.

Secondly, hospitals and medical centres were swamped with people volunteering to donate blood. In fact, the Blood Donor Service had so many volunteers they had to end up thanking people but turning them away, as they had enough donations to be able to cope.

Taking these two things into account, I think it shows - yet again - that the majority of folks really are good, decent people :)

In a previous thread, Rebeljamesdean quoted Fyodor Dostoyevsky as saying, "We are all responsible for all."

Thoughts of strength and healing to you lovely Brits.

There was also a homeless man who helped several of the victims, possibly even saved lives as a result.

Yes, it's been gratifying to see so many people helping their fellow citizens in such a caring manner.

Tragedies like this can bring out the best in people. When Omar Mateen shot up the Pulse Club in Orlando, Chick-Fil-A got their restaurants going and kept sending box lunches over to the various responders and crews on the scene. (Note: a crime scene like that involves huge number of workers for weeks.)

I look forward to the day when people bring out their best all the time, without needing a "tragedy" to motivate them :)
