I saw a commercial for CityCreek. It had all these hip people. A guy with a ponytail, ladies with sleeveless shirts, people imbibing in what could be alcohol. Basically all the worldly behavior the Church teaches against. Just curious if the Church has a say in how CityCreek is run and portrayed.

Better "the world" near temple square than the homeless I guess.

They've contracted with a mall management company, but I imagine they can override anything they want. The mall is deserted. They can't exactly make commercials with mormany only looking people-they need to attract wealthy Gentiles. Your average SL County mormon family with 5+ kids and a mortgage, can't afford to shop at City Creek. They tried to market it as a Galleria or Rodeo Drive of the intermountain West, but they just don't have the market to support it. I understand that they give deep discounts or free rent to companies to keep their storefronts open. Just like many things mormon, it's all about appearance, not substance.

Just like that ad campaign a couple years ago, showing the little girl praying with hands clasped rather than arms folded across her chest. They want to look normal, to attract normal people.

Yeah, but the normal people in their market area are non-mormons. And most non-mormons in Utah that I know, go out of their way not to do business with the mormon church.

They've come a long way from the days when Brigham's valley tan rotgut whisky was the only likker to be found.

I wonder if this will be one of the things that finally sinks them.

You have a declining membership and believer base (even those active and not always 'active').

You have buildings all over the world the must be maintained - even small branches in buildings will be concerned if the branch building closes owing to cost pressures.

You have shopping malls and other lavish buildings that have very high overheads.

Through all of this the church has to keep painting and polishing the boat so that the remaining actives don't see the 50ft iceberg gash in the side and get concerned that the boat might actually be dipping toward the waterline.

It was never intended so much as a prophet maker but rather a jigganormous money laundering enterprise to disguise their tax free piles pilfered plunder.

Bingo! Same with temple building, temple restoration and wardhouse construction. Also condos in SLC & Philly. It's a way to skim tithing dollars into the top of the pyramid, without paying taxes,as well as enriching those that own construction and supply businesses.

Spot-on, Shummy.

Still, I think the Mormons are hoping they can do in Downtown Salt Lake City what they did in (or to) Las Vegas. It's quite a challenge for them to stay afloat, without liquor, gambling, and sex. The cult keeps those enterprises in the closet.

Oh, wait. The Marriott Hotel has porn. Liquor is sold in City Creek restaurants, is it not? Gambling is next. Maybe TSCC can declare itself a tribe or nation, like the Indian tribes, and then they can own casinos at City Creek.

Otherwise, yes, it's a sinking ship. Who would choose a Mormon cruise over a Disney cruise? Mormonism is associated with oppression, lying, hatred, cheating in business, hard-selling, and harassment. I think tourists will avoid this city, for fear a Mormon will pick up their name, and stalk them all the way back home.

City Creek is not charming. It is not ski-oriented. There's no ice skating rink there. It is NOT a city, with character, like San Francisco or Seattle. There's nothing to see. Nordstrom's is Nordstrom's, no matter which place you are in.

Park City owns the ski tourism. For conventions--people want a sea-coast, a lake (with real water), a river, or some history there. People do not want a fake mall and a sales pitch for a cult. Senior citizens prefer Branson. Any place is better than SLC.
