I was reading an article on CNBC, and clicked on the side bar ad bait "10 Things to Know About Mormon Missionaries" for a laugh...but there was nothing about mishies at all: it was about the Bible! Instead of "Request a Free Copy of the BoM", it was a short bible video and "Request a Free Copy of the Holy Bible"!

Reminds me of Scientologists offering a Free Personality Test--then they try to suck you in.

The old bait-and-switch.

Then the missionaries show up and say "Here's your Bible that's been corrupted by wicked men. Have you heard of Joseph Smith?..."

Exactly.
They've tried for years to give away BoMs. From what I've heard, it wasn't very successful.
So they give away bibles, then bring along a BoM and give the old "it's a companion to the bible that contains the fullness of the gospel" tale.

What a waste of paper.

Oddly, when I googled '10 Things to know about Mormon Missionaries', expecting to find a mormon dot org spiel (which is what the click implied I'd link to), I found zilch. I did find this, however, which is kind of amusing:

I was amused that, at the end of the article, they introduced a link with this:

"For more official and surely reliable facts and figures,...(link)"

"SURELY reliable facts and figures"...?!

Seems fact checking is not the HuffPost's forte.

In 1992, there was a LDS media blitz in the area that I was serving. For about 6 months, we had daily media referrals. We must have placed nearly 500 pictures of Christ. Of course, it was a ploy to get into homes and commit them to be baptized. It didn't really work.

They're changing its name to the Book of Bible.

I used to bristle when people referred to the Church as deceptive. But now I look at the ad campaigns and presentations and understand why they say that.
