There is no such thing as corrective therapy.

Well, maybe there is: Perhaps you could get your head out of your BOM and get some corrective therapy yourself for your underdeveloped sense of reason, gullabliity, and compassion.

According the the APA corrective therapy does no good and is only likely to do harm. Indeed, the APA has claimed that it is better to change religions than to try to change one's sexual orientation.

I'm not suppressed the mother is atheist either. She now sees what an Uninspired, harmful, bigoted, unloving organization the LDS is.

Electroconvulsive therapy has been used in a very limited capacity to treat depression when nothing else worked. It actually has helped people. But it has nothing to do with what this article mentions. Electric shock has been used in cruel experimental ways in an effort to cause a psychological aversion, but it is not the same thing as electroconvulsive therapy, which the patient reportedly doesn't even recall after the session. They are, however, less depressed after.

There are a lot of people who know more about this than I do, however. But I know that this is a misconception.

If your church wants to tell gay youth and their parents that homosexuality is a sin and/or immoral, go for it. I think you're losing a battle in a growingly tolerant world.

But the instant you tell GLBT teens and their parents that homosexuality is a choice, you are bullying. The instant you tell GBLT teens and their parents that they can change who they are if they really have the desire to do so, you are bullying. The instant you send OR suggest conversion "therapy" you are abusing those youth and their families.

The church claims to be against bullying in all forms, according to the recent press release, but their actions and uncensored talks speak louder than their PR department.

This "corrective therapy" is still practiced today. One of its early advocates and practitioners is A. Dean Byrd who wrote "Setting the Record Straight: Mormons and Homosexuality".

The Church no longer has anything to do with it, as far as I know, but the guy is still out there.
