As you know my cousin Vinny writes the speeches for several of the General Authorites. I had dinner with him earlier this week and he told me he is writing the speeches now for the October General Conference.

My cousin Vinny said he is having to create two different talks for a couple of the GA's he writes for. One is a standard type talk but the other one has him pissed off. The one that has him upset is about follow the current prophet. My cousin Vinny believes he is wasting his time because-

The Prophet had a "revelation" which is going to be "leaked" to the general membership in June/July and depending on how the leaked information is received depends on if it will be announced during October Conference.

The prophet had a "revelation" god wants the women of the church to have their own Priesthood. The name has not been determined but it is being called the Priesthood of Sara. Basically women will be allowed to give blessings to other women and children under the age of 12.

My cousin Vinny believes the in-fighting the ruling GA's are putting up will not allow women to have their own Priesthood which makes his extra speeches a waste of time.

But will women be able to use their Sara priesthood to run the relief society on their own, or will the brethren still choose their leaders and control their budget? Will their Sara priesthood allow women to hold leadership positions of any importance on the same level with men? If not, that's not going to do it. Always women have been barred from any leadership or power because they are "priesthood" roles. I think you could forget about extending the priesthood to women so long as they had access to some power and authority, some way to participate in a meaningful way in leadership.

Sooooo, based on the assumption this is not an April fool's joke, the 15 anticipate the leak? And when the leak will be leaked? Are they leaking their own leaks?

It's not a leak. It's a Flinch Test.

2nd tier priest(ess)-hood?

All believing Christians already have it:

5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, AN HOLY PRIESTHOOD, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

9 But ye are a chosen generation, A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; (I Peter 1, emphasis added).

The "product" has already been successfully tested and marketed. Besides, we don't need special robes, vestments, anointings, or underwear, for that matter!

I should have added this - the big debate within the big 15 is about the different offices in the Priesthood of Sara. There is will be one for the teenage girls, one for women and a third office reserved for the women who hold leadership offices much like Bishops are also a High Priest.

A woman will not be allowed to ordain another woman. Only men are allowed to ordain a woman and only if the Bishop allows it. This seems to be the one area all of the GA's agree to.

Assuming this is true, I think this could be potentially disastrous. Many mormon women do not want the priesthood, having been taught their whole lives that thats man business.

I know the idea would not sit well with my TBM family. It may backfire on people who are believers in the status quo.

Assuming not a hoax....

In the primitive LDS church women regularly gave blessings. They also stood in the circle to bless family members.

Joseph stated that there was no more sin in a woman giving a blessing than if she had laid a wet cloth on a persons head.

However.... the "Law of Sarah" pertains to polygamy and is found in D&C 132:65

This would be in harmony with Joseph's supressed teaching that the third priesthood was the priesthood of Abraham.

Of course to obtain the matriarchal priest one would need to be endowed in the temple.

I don't know about anybody else, but I am going to run right back to the church immediately!

I'm going to start by giving every sock monkey in my office a blessing, my potted plants, and then my two dogs, and work up from there. Can't just start off willy-nilly with something THAT powerful!

Ohhhhh, I have waited so long for this ...

I'm curious is this a response to declining membership.

Many wards are losing people at such a rate they struggled to fill callings, whilst also dealing with ordain women and bad press etc.

That makes sense. Maybe in the same way that the age change for missionaries got more women to be missionaries, they want to fill in the declining numbers with women for leadership positions and callings.

Why "Sara"? Why not "Bertha"? The "Law of Sarah" as defined by Joseph Smith is a twisted and false rendition of the Biblical story. Are they preparing for the day when they will institute polygamy again? Actually, I believe there are those in upper leadership who are already practicing it in secret, just like Smith and his close buddies did.

This "revelation" is from the "Prophet" - the prophet with dementia.

IF it's not an April Fools joke ....

Sarah "gave" her handmaiden to Abraham. Thus Abraham was a polygamist.

The original new name for everyone in the temple was Abraham or Sarah to signify entering into Abrahamic covenant to have seed more numerous than the grains of sand etc.

I don't believe this post. I can't imagine the reactions if this were true. Then again, if it comes from the prophet, no one will doubt.

When I was TBM, I wanted nothing to do with the priesthood. It had nothing to do with being obedient and it being "the man's job". It was 1 more thing to do. Can you imagine having the "privilege" of giving your child a blessing and they don't get better? There's enough guilt of not being...enough. I did not want that on me.

Not all men are like you fortunately. Just the misogynists who like to objectify women. As it is there is a very real, very prevalent problem with porn addiction among (active) Mormon men.

Which makes sense for many reasons, but also confirms that the men are in charge and that they are misogynists like you.

So if a woman who holds the priesthood of sara is alone with 18 year old daughter and two sons, one age 11 and one age 13, and all of the kids need a blessing, the 13 year old son will be out of luck. Some stupid level of priesthood. Try again big ears... (monson).

Women can already have the priesthood though. Under what authority does a woman officiate the initiatory ordinance in the temple, for another woman? No authority?

(oops- on my phone)
A bunch of sister RM's decided that all of us who were temple endowed already HAD the priesthood, via the laying on of hands amongst the women during the W&A ceremony.

We went around blessing the h#ll out of each other for a year....

The blessings were mostly re: our eternal companions, and future children...All "prophesied" to be G.A.s and....Eek!....Even a prophet!!!

Those ladies are still out there, running around blessing cows and sick animals and little kids and stuff.

The women reasoned they received the priesthood from the laying on of hands during the W&A ceremony in the temple...And I think that's legit. Even our Bish couldn't poke a hole in that logic.

So, Thomas S. Monson, your "revelation" is 20 years too late! Ha!

;o)

Whether or not a joke, I don't think this is far off. Eventually if the cult is to survive the modern age they will have to at least give some kind of token 'priesthood' to women. They may wait until their tax exempt status is threatened (like they did with blacks and the priesthood), but I think it's bound to happen eventually, however the men will still maintain their power every which way they can.

After all what would the Mormon cult be if men and women were to become equals? They could no longer have their male hierarchy and would loose their power. LDS org would be changed beyond recognition. (Certainly not a bad thing). And somehow I don't think arrogant powerful self righteous sexist billionaire men are going to let that happen.

Just reading about second anointing from the account detailed by 'anointed one' some years back that Erik so kindly reposted for me (see today's posts).. that in the second anointment ceremony the wife lays her hand on her husband's head (in private) and blesses him.

That was rather surprising but does show that TSCC has special (very very special extremely RARE) circumstances where a woman can do something normally denied to her. However she washed his feet first and he did not do so to her nor did she get blessed in like manner. So there is still a clear division in terms of who is more important. I think they just threw that in there (her getting to do a blessing) to convince them of it being something extra special sacred and they realized that would just blow their minds since it is so unusual in TSCC (I think personally they just ran out of ideas for how to make this seem like something really different and extra sacred.)

Sorry, I respectfully disagree.

I believe we are currently in a period (globally and nationally) where the pendulum on women's rights is decidedly swinging back to the right.

I do not think the hierarchy of TSCC will be compelled or feel it is necessary to in any way equalize the status of male and female "saints."

The Work of Sarah is what Warren Jeffs calls the same sex activity he required of his wives.

So I think this will go over well.
