I just checked this blog and look:

http://pickerdsitalyromemission.blogspot.de/

The "angel" Moroni has been put on top of the Rome temple yesterday. For me it is not a joy at all.

And why do mormons always have to pose sideways on pictures?!

Ughh. I think the average person would see that building and associate Mormonism with other "religions" like Scientology.

Moroni is kind of like a cartoon character compared to the great classics there. Oh, joy! The McDonalds of Religion has arrived. Sorry, Rome!

It's a very odd looking building. But it will give Mormons who visit Rome someplace to go.

Not a fashionable woman in the bunch.

Meanwhile there are so many beautiful and historic sites in the area already that one cannot see them all in any two-week or even month-long vacation trip.

That line is actually hysterically funny and packed with meaning. Because while the entire population of the Earth finds more than enough history, art, culture of all types and religion to satisfy on a trip to Rome, your average Mormon requires a visit to an architecturally weird, sterile structure with a cartoon gilded figure atop to visit in the eternal city.

About sums it up.

It seems far enough from the center of Rome that it probably won't ruin too many normal people's visit to Rome.

Highway to the north, shopping mall to the west, and Rome proper ten miles to the south.

The location will put it off the radar of the vast majority of tourists. Plus, there is simply too much in the way of jaw-dropping art and architecture in Rome to bother with a Mormon temple.

They weren't. They were posing for someone much much more important than a low mishie. The mishies were taking their pics sideways.

Bet this building will be something else in ten years. How many Mormons are in Rome? As to the fashions, I have not seen women dressed like that since the 80s around here, and that includes old women. In fact they all look like Catholic nuns since so many of them do not wear habits any more. The men do not look so great either, cheap ill-fitting suits and awful ties.

I think even the Catholic nuns who dress in civilian clothes do better than that. :)

The 80s seems about right (minus the shoulder pads.) The women's clothes do not seem to fit very well.

Yes, exactly, just posing. And I also hope for a lightning!

Checking Google maps I always wonder at how huge Rome is, but all the familiar names... Yes, the temple is quite far away from the tourist routes, but will be before the eyes of all the Romans who will go to IKEA and to the mall nearby.

I have some TBM relatives who are planning to go to the dedication. With all there is to see in Rome and in Italy they will travel 1600 km to go see the new temple!!

If I were the manager of IKEA next door, I'd be really pissed. IKEA shoppers will have to look at that monstrosity every time they shop.

Why does Moroni need a crane? Why doesn't he just magically fly up to his perch?

The Sistine Chapel is a tourist nightmare as you slowly shuffle through with a few hundred other people jammed in and heavily accented guards saying "No photo's--keep moving"...

...but still more spiritual than a mormon temple.

I.dont care.one way or another. I think having a temple in Rome is more a PR move than a real need. Yay, we have a temple in the city that is the heart of the Catholic xhurch. Big deal!
