So I've been wondering about this for a few days. Do TBMS consider it a sin? Are there approved massages? What's not kosher with massages? Is it encouraged now? Can mishies do it? How about coed massages?

For an answer I first turned to Mormon Doctrine, but McKonkie mysteriously forgot to make an entry on that subject?

Eagle Gate college (which uses an obvious reference to Mormons and Brigham young) is always on tv trying to suck people into their facilities. They have a massage therapy program.

So what's the deal these days on massages?

Massage Envy in Layton is always booked up and I can only assume since this is Davis County, mainly LDS.

Whether the therapist is male or female working with the same sex or opposite, is moot. These are professionals, trained in proper draping.

My wife and I enjoy a couples massage as frequently as we have time and Massage Envy has an open appointment.

My wife's fav therapist is a man, and I am totally ok with this.

Do they drape the shoulders?

I sure enjoy reading these posts.
It just seems that with the emphasis on "modesty" that stripping down for a good rub would be taboo. But ya Mormons can't stand two pair of earrings or tanktops but apparently this is ok.

Exactly.

I doubt there's any official mormon "policy" on getting a massage.
I'm certain, though, that just like in life and everything else, they're very much against happy endings. :)

Like drinking apple juice in a beer glass
You should avoid the appearance of evil

unless the bishop/ stake pres's got a bad back, in which case there is a clear distinction between a clinic and a parlour and you should not judge

I dunno. I used to have an LDS massage therapist. I think they're okay with it.

I had a good massage in San Francisco once. But that's a story for another day.

deep nerve stimulation, which could be pretty painful at times. They would work the kinks out of a painful muscle, trace it back to its source, and then go to work on that.

This required special training and licensure (and $90 per session, years ago) but it worked. No two ways about that.

Insurance didn't cover it, but the results were so amazing that I was willing to shell out the money. And eventually, the treatment fixed the problem.
